Introducing my Tatted Tea Pots and my Tatting Blog
My Grandma Lincoln would have gotten a kick out of the fact that her Grandson Murray does Tatting.  No not Tattooing but Tatting – Lace making. If I had become a Tattoo Artist she might had a fit… (although I have considered taking that up when I see what people are doing with it today!!!)

I have just about completed my new series of Tatting. Just yesterday I completed the posting of the first photos of my latest Tatting. Today I share it with my Blog Readers and ask each of you to take a look at the full posting the photos of my Tatted Tea Pots.

I have Tatting for each Tea Pot and then applied it give each Tea Pot New Life!!

Here is the latest Tea Pot that I received a few weeks ago – a Camel.

Please check out my Tatting Blog as well at http://tattingwhisperer.wordpress.com/

Enjoy!!!

The Bull Moose’s Love Affair or Not – with an RCMP Cruiser

The Bull Moose’s Love Affair or Not – with an RCMP Cruiser
I point to this story I read about yesterday and then listened to – today because it is very funny.  The story about the Moose and the RCMP Officer with his car.  The story about the Bull Moose mounting the hood of the Copper`s Car…

Now if that has your attention good enough you may want to read more about this story at CBC Web Site and the “Angry bull moose smacks down CMP Cruiser”.

Below the great photo shown on the Web Posting is an audio clip of the CBC interviewer quizzing the ‘communication officer’.  That interviewer is kind of stunned by what she has heard and trying hard to find as many details as possible. She is also likely very much from the city… and is astonished that a Moose is in Prince George BC making a ruckus in this way.

The humour here is so good.

Now in that 15 to 25 second of a one ton animal prancing up to the car, climbing on to the hood, then on to the roof, one foot coming through the driver’s side window, hitting the driver’s shoulder, bruising him… must have seemed like an hour or more.

Scary but very funny!!!?

Now the background of this story is that the Officer was sitting beside the road doing some paper work when he saw a Cow and Calf Moose crossing the road.  The Officer pulled his car on to the road to help stop another car from possibly hitting the moose.

Now it doesn’t say in the report that the RCMP Officer blew his horn or not… but if he did – that further angered the bull moose.  I am making that assumption of course.

You do not Blow Your Horn at a Bull Moose – especially if he is near her!  And even being close to her when he is after her… is not a real good idea. He is stupid to the MAX and likely she is in heat.

There I said what the poor CBC announcer couldn’t say… and what the RCMP news release couldn’t or wouldn’t say either.

Bull Moose that are in their rutting season – or possibly in rutting season (I can’t speak for that Moose) are dangerous because they simply have one thing on their minds… a female Moose… and if another stupid Bull Moose gets in the way… he will chase him off.  Everyone that has been near Moose know that.

Now a RCMP cruiser that is perceived to look like, act like, sound like, or get in the way of the female Moose and the Bull Moose’s love affair – are targeted.

She, “the female moose” had perhaps had enough… and was crossing the road to get away…near the cruiser.  He saw the diversion tactic and let her see what he could to a Cruiser!  Stomp on it… or make like you are mounting it!!!

Now the Mountie knows what female moose endure all the time.

Most moose I have seen are on the run. She is running quickly… and he is not far behind.

And in the wild if you make sounds like a Moose, specially a noisy bull moose, another bigger moose will show up to scare you off.  But it is at that moment that I aim the rifle and “KerBlam” – the big guy full of hormones and raging after a female – becomes steaks, roasts and meat for about six family’s tables.

Now do you see what I think it is very funny?

I wonder what the RCMP Officer was dreaming about the night after it happened… or in the days and nights to come?  Further – I wonder what his buddies are bugging him about back at the office?

Click on the Link and read – then listen. If you stop laughing by lunch time or later in the next two hours I would be amazed.

Ontario Politicians, Ontario Teachers, Ontario Unionized Workers all need prayer… whew!

Ontario Politicians, Ontario Teachers, Ontario Unionized Workers all need prayer… whew!
Only someone that has faced criticism can understand another person that faces criticism… and what it does to the individual under fire.

In Ontario we have a major crisis taking place under our noses.  The political world is being rocked from top to bottom.  Men and women that have been leaders in our Provincial Parliament are resigning – or making it known that they are not going to run again in the next election.  Only  few so far but some predict others will do the same.

They are done in a very few short months.

Our Premier has announced that he is also quitting the job as leader of our Provincial Parliament.  Now another person will need to step forward and take on the leadership of the Liberal party – which will place them in the unenviable position of being a target for major criticism.

Have you ever wondered why people take on these roles that are targets for the critics?

Our Premier did say that he is shutting down our Provincial Parliament (Proroguing Parliament) – because things are too heated up.  Right or wrong there is no need for the Government Elected leaders to show up at Queen’s Park in Toronto – because no one is coming into debate anything.

I have sat listening to the different people speaking to questions or making comments and then others attempting to offer answers for all to hear. And then the ones asking questions ramp up their questions in another way because they feel that the first, second or third questions were not answered. Then when the questions are not answered they accuse each other of being secretive and avoiding the legitimate questions that were asked.

Whew!  I think I got that right… trying to describe what takes places in our Parliament. Maybe impossible???

To sit many times and many days dwelling on what someone thinks you did or did not do, when someone will not listen to what has been said or answered – is overwhelming to say the least… in my mind… and from what I see and hear.

My simple question first is… “Is there a time when they will agree with each other?”  or “Has there ever been a time when that happens?”

Second question is, “When they will never listen to each other and never try to make it work, is there a place where an impasse takes place and no one can work together – ever again?”

I am called to pray for these leaders but at times I do not know what to pray.  That is simple and straightforward way to say it.  So I simply ask God to bless them – each one.  I produce an almost daily blog that offers a prayer for these folk that work in Queen’s Park in Toronto(the Ontario Legislature) – see http://prayforleaderstoday.blogspot.ca/

At times I truly wonder if it makes any difference at all. Simple confession.  But I keep doing what I said I will do – “God please bless each one today… in whatever way you need to do that.. Amen.”

Now the Teachers of Ontario are upset to the max.  Add to their group the Unions that represent the different workers that work under and for the Government are upset too. Everyone wants more money or their own way.  And the Government Leaders are not going to be there to answer questions.

I think I need to pray for all of Ontario today… and for weeks to come.  Would you like to join me?  However if you live outside our area – you likely have your own pray life full praying for your leaderships as well.

Oh Boy.

Could I be the “100 Year Old Man who climber out the window and disappeared?”
When I showed the book, “100 Year Old Man who climber out the window and disappeared”, I was reading to the Staff Member at a Senior Citizen’s home I was visiting, I told her how good the book was and that she might enjoy reading it.  She immediately had leery look on her face and stumbled for some words… saying… “Is it true?”

I began to laugh and tried to assure her that it was ‘just fiction’ but a very good story. In fact it is hilarious at times and twisted at other times.

You see the Senior’s home that I was visiting did have an old man walk out the front (or back) door and the final results were not that good.  He didn’t come back either.

I am not sure how to set up the story so it makes sense. I tried to explain it to the group of older folk in the one group that I meet with each week. Their response was comical also.  The one lady said simply, “Oh my!” when I described he story outline for the group.

On the back of the book cover states a good summary, “A reluctant centenarian with a life much like Forrest Gump’s (if  Gump were an explosives expert with a fondness for vodka) decides it’s not too late to start over…”

And start over is what Allan Karlsson, the 100 year old man, just did. The day he walked away from the restrictive Senior’s home he lived in… he started a whole new life. But mind you he has had a very full life – all 100 years of it before climbing out the window that day of his Birthday Party.

No I am not going to tell you the story. You can buy the book… cheap in many places.  And if you wait, they are going to make a movie of the story – which I think they started on this past summer.

As I read more about the book and how it came about, I discovered a great article in the Telegraph.co.uk web site by Angela Levin.  Angela Levin interviewed the author Jonas Jonasson.

In away Jonas is Allan Karlsson, the 100 year old man… he started over a few times.  Allan’s life and the book is all about starting over… never getting down when tough stuff comes along and keeping moving.

Yes I highly recommend that you read the book… you will love it.

One caution to my slightly OCD friends, there are no quotation marks when anyone in the book speaks. The paragraph that tells of someone’s words simply begins with a dash  “ – ” – which makes you want to make quotation marks all through the book… oh boy.  I almost did.  Just a little different style that I am used to reading… but then that is the whole book…!

Read it – you will love it. And some day you just may need to know how to climb out a window and walk away…!!

Hockey or No Hockey – Today is the Day!
So are you sick of Hockey yet?

What?

There is no Hockey – they are all either ‘Locked out’ or ‘On Strike’ – aren’t they?

Yes you are right.  There has been a reprieve for all the ‘Hockey Haters’ near me. They haven’t had to listen to any games or flip channels to avoid them. They are happy to say the least.  My wife is one of these people.

As I have been following the debates and comments I have found out that today is kind of a Ground Zero day in that if a decision is not coming through today – there will be no possible regular season playing or play off.  There will not be enough time to do what they normally do.

I stumbled on to the ‘680 All News Radio’ article that helped me to kind of see what is happening.  The article was good to give a quick snap shot of what was likely not taking place.  But if there is an announcement it may well knock the Presidential Process in the USA off kilter… hmmm?? I wonder if the two are related in some possible way?  Maybe the Presidential Campaign people are paying the hockey players to stay on strike so there is no hockey to interfere with their silly adds on TV???

On the ‘680 All News Radio’ Web Site these comments today kind of sum up what some people are thinking…

Seriously?!?
There are people in this world who do not have homes to go home to or enough food to eat and these millionaire morons are squabbling over money. Grow up already and think about how lucky you are to be able to be that rich and all you have to do is PLAY A GAME!!!! You all make me SICK!

Deadly sin....Greed!
I think they are very greedy and it doesn't make sense other organization will suffer from this. It is better to fire all the player and get replacement player who will play for much less money.

Oh well...
I've stopped caring.

I Agree
Cancel the whole *&*&* season. To all hockey fans out there....fuhgetaboutit!!! Useless to even talk about it anymore. Greed and power rule! Imagine making ALL this money, and everyone wants more... Go figure. Some regular folk don't even get a yearly raise. Be glad your making what your making for just a few months out of the year. Sports worlds unite....Money, money, money....and you want more money. SHAME ON ALL OF YOU...FROM THE BOTTOM TO THE TOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the fans have had enough.

Don't care
Saving my beer money on the upcoming x'mas shopping. Let's see if there is growth in sales this year end....this is my prediction.

Do It!!!
Please do it already.... Cancel the season!!!

I truly think that Hockey is DEAD!

I think that Local Hockey is far better. I am a Proud Grandpa that gets to a few games every time that I can.  These games are usually in Whitby where the Grandsons play… and they are really good games! There is more action than anywhere else.  I can honestly say – “This is Hockey at its best!”

I think that it would be great to see if the NHL survives a complete season of no Hockey.  I doubt that it would. The fans will not return to a game that costs so much for tickets.  The fans will forget the names of the people playing or coaching. The small melodramas that are hatched by attitudes of players and owners would fade away forever.

Nope – I am not a Hockey Fan either.  I am sorry for the Coach’s Corner two… and the one with the loud coloured jackets… poor Don Cherry. Where will he ever wear the coats he has. The Seniors home that he soon checks into will come alive when this “Mr. Mouth” tells everyone how much he hates burnt toast and cold cereal.

Welcome to the world of no Hockey.  Whoopeee!

Discovering Bitcoin – Hmmm?
New discoveries today have me thinking. Hmmm?

Up to now when I buy something I have to go through the Bank to deal with my money.

The way it usually happens is that I use my credit card to buy something. At the point of sale my credit card guarantees the merchant that they will give him the money from their account because I am a good customer of theirs.   At the end of the month I pay the credit card company the money that I bought on their credit… and then pay them for the use of their money.  I write a check on my money at the Bank.

Today I read of “Bitcoin” – an amazing idea that bypasses the Credit Card Company – I think. I sure need to read more about this before taking on a new project.

Bitcoin describes what their company does… quote…
Q. What is Bitcoin?
A. Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer currency. Peer-to-peer means that no central authority issues new money or tracks transactions. These tasks are managed collectively by the network.
Q. How does Bitcoin work?
A. Bitcoin uses public-key cryptography, peer-to-peer networking, and proof-of-work to process and verify payments. Bitcoins are sent (or signed over) from one address to another with each user potentially having many, many addresses. Each payment transaction is broadcast to the network and included in the blockchain so that the included bitcoins cannot be spent twice. After an hour or two, each transaction is locked in time by the massive amount of processing power that continues to extend the blockchain. Using these techniques, Bitcoin provides a fast and extremely reliable payment network that anyone can use.
End quote

Wow!  Can you imagine?

What happens when the power goes out?  And it happens for a long time??? Whoa!

But I am starting to think like my Great Grandpa Kirkpatrick.  He was worth a lot.  His Banker told him when he left Iowa to travel to Saskatchewan to begin farming… “I can give you as much money as you need. And if you need more please let me know and I will send it to you.”

Back at that time in the early days of 1900 it was all done via mail.  His contacting the Banker was by a letter.  The Bankers reply was by letter as well.  Then the money was guaranteed by a letter to a local Bank in Canada from his Iowa Banker.

Can you fathom the speed of that letter system? Much faster than the Horse and Buggy system – or something called a stage coach I am sure.

What would have my Great Grandpa done with Master Card, VISA or American Express cards? What about ATM machine?

We live in an amazing time for sure.

So if I store up enough Bitcoin in my file I can spend it with other Bitcoin customers. I think that is the way that it works. Hmmm?  Gotta do more reading yet.

I am so confused now about Political Things – How about you?

This BLOG is sponsored by my businesses. I blatantly do this with no apologies ;-)

I am so confused now about Political Things – How about you?
Yes – I watched the last debate in the US Presidential debate – last night.  Not much different than the first two.

Some said after it was over that it was mainly about getting the ‘women voters’ attention and support this time around.  Obama may not have earned their support by his attacks on poor Mr. Romney – some said… apparently thinking that women don’t like men attacking men.

I have no idea where that came from. When you watch a Boxing Match or attend a Boxing Match – there are lots of women in the crowd that cheer the fighters on and cheer when one of them wins.  Is that comment that the pundits made sexiest?

There is no such thing as poor Mr. Romney or poor Mr. Obama. Both men will have spent more than ONE BILLION Dollars on their own campaign after the election is complete – and it isn’t even their money!!  One will have WON because someone(s) thought they liked him better… the other will have lost because they didn’t like him.

“Will 2012 go down in history as the year money took over politics? Both parties will have spent more than a billion dollars electing the next president. More and more of that money comes from a handful of the wealthiest Americans and the corporations they run. On the Democratic side, Jeffrey Katzenberg of DreamWorks, telecommunications pioneer Irwin Mark Jacobs, and hedge fund manager James Simons have donated millions to re-elect the president, but the amount of money the Democrats have received from deep-pocketed supporters pales in comparison to what Republicans have received. A single billionaire, business magnate Sheldon Adelson, had by August spent more than $41 million and promised to spend up to $100 million defeating President Obama and other Democrats. All told, the top .07 percent of donors give more money than the bottom 86 percent. And it pays off. Candidates spend ever more time courting the super rich and then, once in office, try to keep them happy. This summer, for example, Mitt Romney held two fundraisers at which he raised almost $10 million from the oil and gas industry and then announced that as president he would end more than 100 years of federal restraint of oil and gas drilling on public lands. Things like that happen on both sides. How did we get into such a situation? What is to be done about it? Is it threatening our democracy? And doesn’t it go against everything the founding fathers stood for? End quote.

I know we don’t live in the states… but we hear that the opposition hates “Obama Care” and from what I read and hear “Obama Care” is a lot like what we have in Canada… a health care that everyone receives benefits from.

Now I am admittedly Canadian… and enjoy good care and quick care. I do not need to fight to get into see a Doctor or be helped at a Hospital. My communities are safer than most in the USA.  When I come back to Canada I know I am home and will not worry about things that my American Relatives have to worry about.

I do know that if Obama wins – they will hate him again… and after four years they will run him into the ground again and again.

If Romney wins – they will also hate him for what he does in his four years as the new President… just like they did with Obama.

It appears from an outsiders point of view – that Americans elect a person to a top place and then honour him with all that they have, even grow up to think that they too can be President one day… but at the same time at least half of the Nation that the new President will lead, HATES HIS GUTS… and he has to travel with the top security guards that his nation can offer… so no one drops the dude with a Bullet.

Is that a new attitude?  Nope.  One of my relatives, Abe Lincoln, the greatest President that ever served died that way… because they hated him. Yet every last one of them claims he is the Greatest – even after they killed him.  And this is supposed to be DEMOCRACY at its best… sheesh

I do not understand the American Political mindset.

But back in our own country and Province I can’t understand ours either. The more I get to know the men and women that lead ours the more confused I get as well.

They seem great people when you get close to them… or even get to know them… but what happens with the anger and even close violence is way over the top after they are elected.

It is at this time of the American Political machinery grinding, the Canadian Liberal quandary, the Ontario Provincial political world upset with no Government sitting within the Legislative building… yet they are all paid well and looked after by all of the people… and only a Premier and his Cabinet that are running everything on their own… and it appears to be going this way until the Provincial Liberals select a new Liberal Leader in late January 2013… that I really wonder what it is all about.

Do you think that maybe people have lost faith in the people that lead them?  I do.  I think that you will have a very hard time convincing my Grandsons to believe in what is taking place around them… to maybe get involved and serve in politics.

Thank you Gentlemen and Ladies of the Political World – at least we do not have to guess any longer what is true and not true.  I am now totally confused about almost everything.

Roof is All done - Final Inspection
Good Lord I am so sore – but so happy that I have my son George
This morning I have between 326 and 425 muscles that are screaming at me… “You Idiot… what did you do to us this past few days!”

Why that number?  Well the human body has between 656 and 850 muscles in it – depending on which experts you consult… and about 50% of mine are killing me!

Starting on Saturday morning at 7:30 AM and then working until 7 PM I helped shingle our Roof. The job was wrapped up on Sunday afternoon after we did 4 ½ hours more.

Did you know that each bundle of shingles weighs 80 pounds?  They never weighed anywhere near that when I was a mere 20 year old. When I was around 40 years old they seemed to get a little heavier – but at 68 they feel like 80 pounds and then some!!!  The package never actually got any heavier – I just got older... much, much older!

“We” lifted 80 bundles of the shingles up on to the roof.  That is 6,400 pounds of material went up 10 feet and then had to be carried to each area of the roof itself.

Now if you have done any roofing you must realize by now that 6,400 pounds of material had to come off the roof before the new shingles could be laid down again.  And if you miss the trailer with the shingles that you drop from the roof – you simply picked up more pounds and placed them into the trailer.  Simply put we may have lifted an additional 200 to 300 pounds more as amateur roofers.

For shingles coming off you needed to bend, pick up and then throw them at least 20 feet out to the trailer.   Single shingles don’t make it through the air like say 10 to 20 pounds balanced on one hand fired like a shot put!

No I never did all of that… four fantastic Grandsons and one fantastic Granddaughter did 90% of that lifting and putting shingles up out of the trailer and down into the trailer.  These kids are 17, 16, 14, 13 and 11!  And they are amazing.  They worked the full15 ½ hours non-stop.

YES – that is true!  There are Teenagers in the World today that actually can put a very full day into a job and outwork most men!!!

Now I need to explain that the lift that was operating on the ladder definitely helped us a million times over.  The 80 pound bundle was lifted up on to the carriage and the gasoline motor powered it to the roof in about 3 seconds.  It was there that very powerful young men grabbed the bundle and carried it to where it needed to be. Then when needed at another spot the bundle was picked up again and placed where George, our roofer, needed them.

Now I make it sound like the Grandsons and Granddaughter did it all. No way!  George Van Spronsen is a roofer by trade.   George was the Main Man at this job site… and George not only hammered down the bulk of the shingles but he also motivated 5 young people to do their best… and they did.

I noted that none of our teens had to get down and “go have a smoke”… and none were hung over form the night before!  George saw that too.

I need to thank George with this posting and also one other very special lady… his wife Jessika!!!  She loaned George to us for the two days and we so much appreciate that.

Behind the scenes other stuff happened too that sometimes makes it even more difficult to get a good job done.

George and Jessika have two sons Jonah and Sam.  Some that read this Blog know that when their first son Jonah was born he faced major difficulties with his young life.  If everything would have gone the way that it might have – the ‘Charge Syndrome’ he was born with placed his life at risk many, many times.

Now - Every night a nurse comes to their home to attend to Jonah all night long.  Each hour Jonah is checked so that his breathing tubes are clear and free of obstructions.  She stays all night so that George and Jessika can sleep.

While we were on the roof on Saturday George received a call from Jessika telling him that the nurse couldn’t come on Saturday night.  That meant that George and Jessika would have to spell each other off each other off while they looked after young Jonah – all night long.

George never cursed or swore at the problem that they faced together. George is not like that. George faces this personal family problem in a calm and gentle way. This big strong and most powerful man that I know simply loves his wonderful wife – through it all.

I performed the marriage for Jessika and George – a wonderful ceremony and a great celebration together.  I also just happened to be at the Hospital the night that Jonah was born and the family faced that horrific moment when they found out that their brand new baby boy was fighting for every moment for his young life.

You see George, Jessika and our family are very close.  We are in it for a life time.

When George and Jessika heard we had roof problems, they were the ones that volunteered to help us.

I have to take a deep breath and kind of cough when it comes to these four special people.  I get choked up at times.  They are very near and dear to my heart.  My four Grandsons and one Granddaughter were working alongside their “Uncle George” this past weekend.  You see we have adopted George and Jessika as our kids as well!!!

This Blog Post this morning is to say a BIG THANKYOU to George and Jessika for what you folk did this weekend for an Old Minister and his Wife.  God bless you for your kindness and love for us!

BTW – these new style of shingle are 40 year shingles – guaranteed to last 40 more years. They are not like the old style with the silly slices in them giving it that old shingle look.  These double laminated at the exposed edge with no slices in them.

I will be 108 years old when they will be needing replacing.

All of this is great… but Good Lord I am so sore this morning I can hardly move!
