A Little Bit of Shock

( Photo of American Union Bank - 1929)
Dear Mr., Mrs., and Ms Politicians Today:

Today I am in a little bit of shock to read the news reports coming out of Ottawa. Can you believe it – we are back into more politics as a Christmas Present. Thank you very much Mr. Dion, Mr. Layton, Mr. Duceppe and Mr. Harper. I think we have, as Canadians, just witnessed the core of what our Political World is all about.

Every single person that I have talked to over the past day is shaking their heads with dismay. “Can you believe it!?” or “UNBELIEVABLE!” are but two of the comments that folks have shared with me.

A rough guess from what has been said so far is summed up simply. Mr. Harper or ‘someone’ in his party wanted to goad the other leaders by saying we are not going to allow money to be paid out to each party – of one “Loonie” for each vote they received in the election of October.

The Liberals are broke and they need the money. The NDP hate being low man on the totem pole (apologies to my Aboriginal friends). And the BLOQ from Quebec need more exposure and now simmer with a new and added separatist agenda.

So…. Three old enemies have said we will plunge the country into complete disarray politically and cause a huge debt to be added to the Canadian’s back – because they demand their way.

Reading all that has anybody noticed the word “Bullies” stand out. Our maybe “Gang” would resonate better.

A few very sad years ago China had its notorious “Gang of Four” lead it when the country sunk to its lowest. And it needs to be said again – the Great Country of China sank to its lowest under the “Gang of Four”.

Now add to that a confused and struggling Canadian public that are losing their jobs no matter what is done.

Now if you were a leader – what would you do?

I think that I would consider these simple factors…
* - Canadians have spoken on October 14 – it was called democracy…
* - Now a “Gang of Three” have stepped up to say they are in control…
* - People of Canada are sick of antics and tired or electioneering…
* - The Biggest revolt every seen in Canada will not be from a “Gang of Three”… but rather from the people themselves…
* - The “Go Ahead Call Another Election” NOW – and see what all of us will tell these ‘leaders’ what we feel. “GO AHEAD - MAKE MY DAY!”

My mother is 87 years old. As we sat at the table yesterday she stated something profound, “They call THAT democracy!” I fully understood what she was saying and questioning at that moment. “How can they do that kind of thing!?” was her second statement. I couldn’t answer. There were no words to fill the dead space.

Mom was born in 1921. She has told me of the Depression Years and what their family lived through in the late 1920s and the 1930s – the “Dirty 30s”. She was 9 years old when those vivid memories of the losses that they had on that farm in Southern Saskatchewan. Boiled wheat was a staple for many meals.

Now her great granddaughter Emma, my granddaughter, is 9 years old. The cuts backs and the slow down is hitting our family as well. Could Emma see some of what her Great Grandma did when she was 9? If the Gangs of Ottawa can pull it off – it may well be her legacy as well.

From the little stuff that I did I find out about the politicians of the 1920s and 1930s of Canada were pretty much the same. They lived in big houses and played big games with the money of Canadians. What was really the most important thing to them was power – not people. The suffering farmers of Canada had no idea how well these dudes lived.

Not much has changed.

Today there is a need to revise the Wikipedia Explanation of Canadian Government – where it states… "Canada is considered by most sources to be a stable democracy. In 2006 The Economist ranked Canada the ninth most democratic nation in its Democracy Index, ahead of all other nations in the Americas and ahead of every nation more populous than itself."

Fortunately people can offer edits to what is written in Wikipedia. But in Canada that is shakey – a vote here really doesn’t matter that much.

I am not political. I do not want to stand up for one over the other. I feel my task is to pray for the leadership that is placed around me. I support not tear down. Boy do I need to pray today… but sometimes that is even hard to do.

But when this kind of thing happens – what do you? The easiest is to back away and tune out idiots. But when that happens, idiots become more powerful and Gangs are allowed to take over. There is enough evidence of that happening all over the world both in the past and in recent times. Check out Germany, North Korea and China.

I renew again a call for action in Prayer. I am sending this to my MP to let him know my concern. I am not sure that he will read it of even listen. He may well be looking for his old election signs and preparing his “Team” for another royal rumble. But if he doesn’t the opposing person will be looking for theirs and get ahead of them.

Yahoo Canada! We stand on guard for thee….
