God and Disaster

On June 2nd the “Times Online” posted an article about the Air France A33-200 crash 4 hours off the coast of Brazil. At the end of the article a comment section was given space.

I read all 54 comments that were posted as of 7 AM this morning and decided to post them here. It is a snap shot of what people think and how we react.

From the first of Comment shown below – which is likely the last one of the 54 – you will see a great difference in the way that people react to the tragedy.

God has heard a lot from people here on earth. God has also heard a lot about what he did and didn’t do.

To Craig from Guildford I present the thought… maybe the pilots and those sending them off over a vast ocean didn’t see a storm coming? Maybe another angry human being took actions to destroy more of his fellow mankind? No one knows at this point in time.

One interesting thing to note is where the person making the comment is from…

To those of you asking 'God' to look after the deceased, may I ask if this is the all-loving, all-knowing, all-powerful god of Christianity? The god who didn't prevent this tragedy? The god who let 228 innocent people die and, in doing so, caused so much grief for their families and friends?

Craig, Guildford,

Would it be churlish to say that the Good Lord could have prevented this happening?? I can't think of many worse ways to die than plunging 35,000 feet out of the air at 1am??

How merciful he is, indeed........

Pu Li, Guangxi, PRC

Chris of Didcot: "I cannot even think about how the passengers and crew must have actually felt."

The good news: if, as it appears, the aircraft rapidly decompressed in the stratosphere, none of them had a clue what hit them.

The bad news: if so, none of them survived the experience.

Laurence Tenney, San Francisco,

..so sorry..

Merilee, fall river ma, United States of America
