Graham Gelineau’s reluctance
I am not sure if you caught the story about Graham Gelineau? He was 59 years old this last year. And when he was 55 he became a very wealthy man… in fact it was the $37 Million that he won that made him so wealthy. Also it was the biggest win on record up to 2007.

Graham lived in a boarding house of some sort. Not a pleasant place to live. When he won the huge jackpot he moved out of the place that he share with others. He wasn’t about to share anything with anyone. He knew that people would come running after him with a long list of needs and wants that he would have to decide upon being legitimate of not.

The best was to hide away – alone.

He did that and from what I read he was also in poor shape physically. He died alone not long ago.

What a sad story.

I have thought about Graham a lot after reading about him. All that money and it did him no good.

I have dreamed about winning big some day. About being able to buy another house, by my kids a new home each to get them more room, and then maybe have a holiday for a while… come home and work in the garden and not worry about money any longer.

I am sure that I could do a little better than Graham did.

Yet who knows what any one would have done differently.

I had another friend that won big. Before he got home from the initial celebration there were folks lined up to ask him for money. There were charitable groups offering to take the cash load he was carrying lighter – by taking ad portion of it away from him.

I can understand Graham Gelineau’s reluctance to stay away from all of that.

I am just sorry that he had to be a alone.

Today I will remember Graham… and think of him often.
