Today’s Blog Post

Cinderella and PMS

Yesterday I posted an article about Ms. Helena Guergis’ actions and reaction in the Charlotte, P.E.I. airport as she unloaded her displeasure on the staff – security and airline – at the airport. Ms. Guergis was late arriving to the airport. Required like all other people in our country to be there at 2 hours prior to the flight departure, for some reason she arrived 15 minutes before departure – and expected to get on board – THEN!

All the reports that came out of that episode at that airport indicate a woman that was out of control. It has been suggested that she used her position to exert influence and pressure on the staff that day.

Anyone else trying that stunt would have been possibly tazered! If not tazered she would have been detained. The rest of us have to be careful that we do not act out our frustrations at an airport – ever! There are no allowances at all.

It is likely as Ms. Guergis came onto the scene that day at that airport she was having other issues at play that few people would understand. Ms. Guergis had moved from a common and pretty ordinary person in society, to one that has been “chosen” above others and given position of power and influence. She is a 2010 Cinderella – taken from cleaning the hearth and scrubbing the floors of a mean old step mother – and hounded to death by her step sisters – to become the favoured Princess in Canada.

She is a Cabinet Minister working along with the Prime Minister and other top of the Pile folk that used to be ordinary. And she has now come into her own as a Cinderella.

The following report describes how she has received the Glass Slipper Award for being the special person that she is!

Quoting from her own Web Site…
Hon. Helena Guergis, P.C., M.P. is named one of Canada's Top 20 Business Women and Receives the Exclusive Glass Slipper Award

Each year, Women’s Post scours the nation to find the top 20 women of the year. Each woman reflects strength, ingenuity, and confidence while contributing not only to society, but to the success of women in the workplace. In addition, the Woman’s Post honours one special woman with the Women’s Post Glass Slipper Award which is bestowed upon someone who has gone above and beyond in helping not just her community, but other women in particular.

"My optimism is founded on two important facts: first, that our government acted quickly and effectively in responding to the crisis - and we are now seeing results from those actions as Canada has begun recovering.

And second, in my role as Minister of State for the Status of Women, I get to work “up close and personal” with the women and the organizations which are helping to re-build our nation’s economy. Their efforts are contributing to continued economic recovery.

Women are participating in our labour force and in our small-and-medium sized enterprises in record numbers and our contribution to Canada’s bottom line is significant, and still growing.

In fact, last fall Statistics Canada reported that in the first six months of 2009 women outnumbered men in the work force for the first time at 50.9 per cent.

At Status of Women Canada we are supporting numerous programs to encourage women in business and in the trades, and I will be happy to give you more detail on that a little later."

Hon. Helena Guergis, P.C., M.P.
End quote…

So some of you think that I am unfair as I call her a Cinderella! Well she is wearing the Glass Slipper and it fits!

But what makes a woman be transformed almost overnight? From ordinary to “watch out here she comes”!!!!

My guess is as a member of the not so lovely group called MAN… that it is has to do with PMS. No – I am not trying to be funny. It is that time that MAN knows better to cross the rage that he could encounter. I have witnessed this so often in the public settings that I can’t tell you the number of times.

PMS of course represents “Pre Menstrual Syndrome” to every one else.

In another world that watches from the outside it also stands for “Princess May Scream”.

One part of the Cinderella Story was never told. That is what the Prince got himself into by bringing this one home to his Castle. The story ends happily ever after. I don’t believe that for one minute. The Prince got more than he bargained for… with his PMS Factor.

Not for one second do I believe that all women are bound to lash out with the “Princess May Scream” mode. I have witnessed many more that are normal or calm than that are PMSed out in left field.

One thing is that I do not need to sit in the same airport or airplane that they do. And they have no right to lay it on to me with their hissy fits.

And Dear Ms. Guergis is that kind of person that makes choices to do pretty much what she wants to do when she figures she should.

Do I know her? Have I met her? NOPE – not even once. But she has a number of PMS Like sisters and for that matter some “brothers” that act out over and over again. People back away from them, cringe from them and even run from them. I don’t.

I am very glad that I am not married to one of them either. I lucked out like no other man has… just in case you wondered!

In my working career and as the many days prior to that I have watched the PMS - Princess May Scream syndrome – all too often. In fact as a Minister, it kind of kept me in business listening to the children and the husbands of this kind of person. I listened but didn’t have any answers except to recommend that the spouse take up fishing and get out of the house. I witnessed a few men that drank themselves into a numbness that didn’t’ allow the sting of the PMS they lived with!!!

I appeal today for Ms. Guergis to do the right thing and get help. I ask for her to go back to P.E.I. and face the public… ask forgiveness and make it right.

Other than possibly being pelted with potatoes or some dry fish… she would do well in taking that action.

Issuing a public apology with coded words that play down what she did is simply wrong.

Hey for what it is worth – maybe nothing… I say it out loud.

For what it is worth...I just received the following statement from my MP's Office...
Good Morning Murray,

MP Del Mastro will not comment on the behaviour of a fellow Member of Parliament. MP Del Mastro agrees with the Office of the Prime Minister that as Minister Guergis has apologized, the matter should be considered closed.

Best,
