This past week was a clean-up after the G20 stuff in Toronto. Stuff happened and protestors did their thing. There were innocent protestors and not innocent protestors.
Good people wanted to have their say. But bad people also wanted to say something. The way the second group did it brought the World’s problems to our doors step. We have seldom seen anger in our generation – in our area.
One of my friends lost most of his Flower Shop business inside as young men and women broke into his store the same night that the final G20 protests were taking place not far away. The damage was in excess of $55,000. Our own city had protestors smash the windows at the Police Station and write warnings on the building.
Both the business and the Police Station are more that an hour and half drive from where the major protests were taking place.
HOW could this happen in quiet Canada?
Yesterday
Yesterday at Lang Pioneer Village it was brought home in a poignant way for all of us. There was a Raid staged by the Fenians against the British Regiment stationed at Lang.
The Fenians were rascals that wanted their own way. They wanted to send Britain a strong message to get out of Ireland. They did this by attacking anything to do with Britain in nasty ways. They attacked British custom posts and other British targets across Canada. They raided from the USA and did fairly well with their killing and takeovers from New Brunswick to Niagara Falls in Ontario.
One of their names that they operated under was the Irish Republican Army – in the 1860s of Canadian History!
Wait a minute… isn’t that the infamous name used not so long ago in Ireland when they were/are fighting with Britain to get out of their country?
Whoah! Nothing much has changed. We still have protestors and we still have property damage because of angry people!
The Black Bloq is very much like the Fenians. Both have personal issues that they cannot deal with – so they lash out at the people around them – even if they are innocent.
In Lang Village yesterday we had real guns blasting away and puffs of smoke drifting all around the Village Population. The smell of sulphur burning and the loud bangs as the long rifles blasted away was very impressive to say the least.
People died in the raid yesterday. But after it was over... they came to life again. After all it was a re-enactment that was performed by young actors and history enthusiasts. Well done by the way… making this as real as anything I have ever witnessed. We were right in the middle of the battle with them.
If you were in Toronto last weekend… you pretty much must have felt in the middle of it as well.
I want to thank each of the Fenians and the British Soldiers of yesterday’s action. You made this come alive for me in ways that are hard to describe!
