Being Watched By Neighbours

Have you ever been in a Wal-Mart – or other large stores where the black dome hanging down is right above you? In that black dome is a camera – at least one, looking for people that are possibly stealing something from the store. And somewhere in the store there is a person looking at what you are doing.

In 2009 you kind of get used to someone watching what you are doing. Sometime it unnerves the ones that are being watched.

The young neighbor behind our place is new to the community. He works nights and sleeps days. The small house he lives in is surrounded on both sides with tall hedges that specially line one side of his driveway.

He came home the other day to find the shared hedge was cut down to about the 3 foot level – leaving his driveway exposed. He protested to his much older neighbor – who simply stated that neighbors shouldn’t have the view of each other’s places obstructed. She, his older neighbor, felt she had the right to look into his property to see what was going on. The previous owner was also an older lady that she knew well… but she doesn’t know the new young man – so down came the hedge.

When he told me the story he was frustrated with the apparent lack of respect and suspicious attitude of the older lady next door. I encouraged him that she or her family may sell before long… because there may not be much “long” left for the old girl. Old people – well… move on – or away…

Well in today’s news reports it is now shared that the surveillance at the American Border abutting parts of Ontario is now beginning to see new helium balloons raised with very sharp and sensitive cameras mounted below them. These cameras can read the name on a ship 14 Kms away. You can only imagine what they can see a few blocks away.

In Sarnia, Ontario there is a large protest building against the one that is now in place 240 metres over the St. Claire River – able to look into the Canadian’s yards and lives – as well as into Port Huron that they are trying to protect.

The USA’s Department of Homeland Security is the one that will be using this camera to safe guard their country against invasion by “Sarnians”. Sarnians are a dangerous bunch. For hundreds of years they have lived peacefully next to the American Border… sharing the same river. Duh! Now they are suspects and being watched by a very high camera looking down on them.

Sarnians are not people that you mess with. 220 of them so far have signed up for a “Moon the Balloon” on August 15. If you happen into Sarnia on that day a huge number of people will have their bottom sides pointing up ward to the Camera below the Balloon flying about as high as a Television Tower… and looking up to 7 miles or so into Canada.

All kinds of people along the border are having a “conniption fit” with the invasion of their privacy.

Duh – people – think it through a little. So what if a camera looks into your backyard and even takes your photo… they do it in Wal-Mart all the time… and even the local convenience store has that ability.

If a terrorist wants to do something nasty at that border… with a Camera looking in on him… or potentially looking at him… do you think a Camera will stop him…?

On the TV shows that America regularly shows us dumb Canadian Terrorist the how to… we simply need a high powered rifle to pop out the camera system hanging from the Balloon… DUH! – or worse yet it is a Helium Balloon… that will pop if you miss the Camera.

Oops I may be investigated for having suggested that idea. No way Hosea – I saw it happen on a program called “The Unit”… they travel into many countries illegally and do all kinds of nasty stuff – and the program shows you how they do it… or how it can be done.

Now back to Sarnia.

In Sarnia there are a few days that you can see 14 Kms… and on most days you can maybe see 1 Km or less. Now that is in summer time. Take a look at the Blow that comes down the St. Clair river sometimes in the winter… either loaded with snow or with the fine rain that never stops.

I can suggest a lot better method for the Americans in the Dept of HS. Come on over to Sarnia and talk to the residents personally. Get to know them. Then meet some of the people that live near the highway that leads into the USA – leading up to the Bridge. Then if you listen close enough an offer will be made to you. They will rent you space to build a Life Guard Chair/Tree Stand on their property. It would take you about eight properties like this along that road. With binoculars and your radio … you can look over each vehicle carefully. The traffic is so slow each time I travel that road that you can have coffee with each trucker along the way.

Yah – Yah I know it is a dumb idea that will never work. But if you think that a dumb balloon loaded with helium and with a little electronic bundle will do better… well that is so dumber!

Now on August 15 many bare behinds will be seen – and you can only guess how many YouTube Videos will hit the e-waves within hours.

Back to Peterborough…
I wonder when someone with lots of ideas and lots of money will start saying that we need to protect our Lift Locks from the Terrorists. I mean came you imagine what would happen if someone blew up that outfit?!? What a splash that would make!

There are days when “Stupid” rules the world and a Camera at Sarnia… is one of them.

Now Windsor – Detroit is a different story. You need only to cross the border into the USA off the end of the Bridge and you will be frightened to death. The burnt out building and the gang related stuff that goes on… will scare any Terrorist back into Canada. Detroit’s scary presentation is far more efficient than a dumb balloon.
