Confusion in Our Driveway

I feel horrible! My head is the size of a house. My lungs are on fire and I am drowning in way too much fluid inside them. YUCK!

One of my granddaughter’s teeny, tiny germs invaded my body when I was looking the other way and it has nearly killed me! Double YUCK!

Yet at the same time I have settled our lack of an automobile. If all goes well we take delivery today of a 2007 small size van… a Saturn Vue Hybrid.

Buying a vehicle is always a high point in my life. I love cars and vans and trucks.

Now couple these two situations together in my life and I have confusion of sorts.

In my driveway I have a 1996 Nissan Quest van that has almost breathed its last breath. In a way it is in the ICU Unit in our driveway. It is only a matter of time before it completely dies,

But at 400,000 kms and 15 years it has served way beyond the expected time.

Last evening as I tried to lie still so the tickle in my lungs would stop and also trying to catch a little sleep… I dreamt all night about the Old Van.

I need to clean it out, take off the trailer hitch, and get it ready for the ‘funeral’. It was a very emotional moment as I struggled with the next steps for the Old Girl. I think at one point I cried in my Dream!

Can you believe that? It has to be the teeny, tiny bug inside of me as I react to these things.

I have had this van almost one quarter of my life. No wonder I am attached to it!

I suggested to my wife that I could cut the top off, making it into kind of a convertible. That way we could load it full of flower pots and make it into one of the largest Planters in our city.

Funny my wife didn’t think that was too cool. I thought it was a totally unique idea!

She said that the idea has come out of the fever that I have suffered and that the teeny, tiny bug has damaged my brain.

I have been thinking of the years that I have driven a car.

In 1960 I went through the passage into my manhood. I did my driver’s license test and past. That was a special moment.

Within weeks I had my first car a 1925 Model T Ford. Then the next year I added a 1937 Dodge Roadster coupe with a rumble seat. Then came a 1951 Buick and a 1947 Mercury. And as the year rolled by my love affair with the vehicles that came my way grew deeper. I think that I have had over 25 vehicles in these years of driving.

So… coming to this stage in life with a deep love for the Old Van… it is understandable in my mind… how a man can be deeply in love with his vehicle.

No I know that I have lost all my female readers. They agree with my wife. The teeny, tiny germ has done a job on my thinking. I went over the edge too far.

Hey… I am a man… and men admittedly do strange things and think in very odd ways.

Oh my head!!! Yuck!
