Today’s Blog Post
Anyone can touch a life
At the moment I am writing this – I am “conferenced out”. My Mind I numb and my Butt is sore from sitting. I need a walk in the bush. I need to be far, far away from this place.
Yet it has been fascinating hearing all that I did yesterday. Listening to the many aspects of the help that citizens of Canada give to the Correctional Services Canada and the men that live inside the prisons, is amazing!
We are in Kingston, Ontario and attending a Correctional Service Canada conference entitled “Anyone can touch a life”.
Yesterday a small lady that is likely in her 70s or more… stood to tell how she and a group of volunteers organized themselves to help make the visits to Daddy in jail – easier for the guy’s kids. They raised money and bought toys for the visitation area. While Daddy talks with Mommy, the kids can play.
When she had her idea to make a difference for the kids and the families hurt by the crime that Daddy did… the authorities wouldn’t allow her to do this. So she went to Ottawa and made a presentation to the Parliamentarians – and they listened to her. They changed the rules and made it possible for kids to be helped.
Talk about guts!
Last night they honoured her with a special nomination award.
There are too many stories to tell and the things that I heard almost overwhelmed me at times.
It is a “WOW! Moment” today. I have been very moved to have heard all this… and try to take it in.
Locally in our city it has given me a new perspective I am sure.
The title of this conference is special… “Anyone can touch a life.”
I believe that now more than ever before.
