Today’s Blog Post
Happy Birthday Betty White
“I’m just at one of those good times in one’s life. There’ve been so many of those through those 90 years but, even so, I’m at one of the high spots. I’m healthy enough to enjoy it. I’m surrounded by friends I adore. Isn’t that kind of the best way to sign off?” ~ Betty White
Last evening I watched the tribute and celebration of Betty White’s 90th birthday. That was fun. The things they said about her were great.
Over the years we have watched her many different roles in life. As society changed so did Betty. And I think that is the part of her life example that really does hit home with me.
I need to change as the times and the opportunities change. I cannot pine for what was before. I cannot be miserable for what I didn’t get. I need to simply enjoy what I have – and be very happy!
In recent times I have been discussing with some friends our old relationships that we once had. It became pretty clear that what we escaped in some of the former relationships, it was a good thing. In fact the persons that ended up with the people we once knew have regretted it – BIG TIME.
In some situations I have heard where there are major changes happening for my friends. They are at a place that seems like “Limbo” – stuck in between there and the other place. They are between two goods with no idea when the second good will arrive.
In Betty’s life I imagine that she also has time where she was not employed. There were times when it was real good and then not so good.
Betty first married in 1945 to Dick Barker – but that marriage did last. She was ready to marry another man by the name of Lane Allen by 1947. But that marriage was gone by 1949. Two guys in four years – and that was the 1940s – WOW! Not so good times.
She waited until 1963 to marry again. That was when Allen Ludden came into her life. He passed away in 1981.
In those three relationships there were no children. So Betty’s life is unlike many of the Hollywood folk with a trail of offspring scattered all over the place.
I do admire the woman. Even though she is smart mouthed and a sometime insinuative talking old gal… she has class. She is very funny and has a great compassion.
Perhaps we do not see the angry old person that sometimes shows up when people hit 90 (or even younger).
Today, along with the world around me I say, Happy Birthday Betty White!
After the big show that was broadcast last evening, you likely are sleeping in today.
