Today’s Blog Post
Meeting the Beaver on the Road to Buckhorn
As Alida leaned over to me, she was still giggling, “I have not laugher this hard in a long time!” she said.
We were just completing an amazing night in Buckhorn, Ontario. It was 10 PM. We began the adventure at 6 PM when we arrived at the Buckhorn Community Centre for the Dress Rehearsal of two plays, “Mrs. Harper’s Bazaar” and “The Kitchen Witches”.
Now where do I begin to sort it all out?
First…
I want to thank our friend Debbie Karpenko for including us in last evening’s happening. What a delight Debbie!!!
Debbie is a fellow business owner. Her business “Waterfront Interiors” is a community sponsor of the Buckhorn Community Centre and all that it does.
The whole evening with Debbie was amazing. Great food… great friendship… and two hilarious plays enjoyed together!
The plays were amazing. You have to see what I mean. They still have tickets for three nights coming up next week, but for the most part it is sold out. They begin their full presentation next week and continue over two weekends – November 12 – 14 and 19 – 21, 2010. You could call 705-657-8833 if you are interested in getting the last few tickets.
BTW – these tickets include a full course meal plus two amazing plays!
Second….
A I mentioned yesterday… I am way to busy right now to see straight! (Sounds like a pity party… sorry – just reality at Santa’s Workshop – I mean Misty Hollow Wood Carving Shop – with lots to do in 45 days)
Taking time away is hard when you have so few hours to go with hundred of hours of work to do! If I could double space my days – it would be much easier!!!!
Third…
When I am too busy, God knows and taps me on the shoulder… or shows me something that is more important. Most of the time this “tap” comes to help adjust my thinking… just when it needs to be adjusted. Last night that happened again… with the laughter… with the time out… with my wife and our date… and with something I witnessed on the way to Buckhorn.
Fourth…
I met a Beaver on the road to Buckhorn that has changed my thinking about work and getting things done. And that is where this posting is going today.
We were in a hurry to get there on time. With Buckhorn being about an hour’s drive from our house to the Buckhorn Community Centre we left early.
It was dusk… the sun was already setting when left home… and along the way the twilight/sunset was amazing. All the trees and split rail fencing to the left(west) were black against the golden glow of the sunset.
As we hurried along the road the visuals slipped by and with each minute the scene that was so amazing was simply slipping away. It was there but I was in a hurry… way to busy to stop and watch the glory before me!!!
As we came around one corner and came lower along the country side we came to a spot where there is lake on both sides of the road. The road goes over kind of a causeway. The water laps up to the roadside with a culvert at that spot that allows drainage under the road. To the right there is a quiet bay… to the left is the flat and quiet water of the lake.
At the moment we flew over that stretched of road, in a hurry, I looked to the left… and saw the moment that stopped my rush and running. Within less than a kilometre I slowed and then stopped the vehicle, turned around and went back.
The sun had already set. The glow of the day was all that would be left. The hues of colour now showing were stunning to say the least. I took out my faithful camera and began clicking away… each shot was different from the last… each in turn had its own beauty… and it was fading very quickly.
It was at that moment that Alida spotted Mr. Beaver swimming toward us slowly… still working with an amazing diligence. I say working as he was tugging a tree, not a branch, with him. It was an old ever green tree of some sort without the needles… likely about four times his length. His goal was the culvert that was under the road beside where I was standing.
Beaver thinking… I am sure… “Water runs through a culvert… meaning that you are losing water… so plug the place where water runs out.”
This beaver was not one bit concerned about me standing there.. as I came from my busy world… he was just continuing to do his thing and do it well. The day seemed to be over… but the Beaver didn’t notice. It was November 9, 2010, snow would come soon to his lake… but it wasn’t there yet… and he had stuff to do.
I think I met the happiest Beaver in Canada! All his relatives and cousins in other places had stopped working as their lakes had frozen over. This beaver wouldn’t quit and was having a great time!
As I sat last evening watching a very full evening where some many people had put so much work into the entertainment.. and done such a great job… I thought of the Beaver… and my own work… and I grinned.
God had nudged me again and showed me clearly what I am doing and how much it means to the world that I am in.
I gotta run… I have a hundred people to meet today… I have two Craft Sales to get ready for… I have the Festival of Trees coming in one week and some more carvings to do… more Bears to do… more Leaves to carve… and WOW – AM I EVER EXCITED!
