I fear the Motor is dead or near that point… and I hate spending money
Arghhh!  A piece of my machinery came close to death last night!  No. No. I didn’t die or get hurt… the machine did.
On May 25th, 2012 I wrote a Blog Posting describe how my old Atlas Lathe motor had taken a turn for the worse… and I replaced it with a second hand motor for $50.
It was a second hand motor at that time… and last evening the possible defects in that second hand motor started to show.  The motor was very hot and at one point it shut down right in the middle of when I needed it the most.
Now if you have read the post that I wrote on May 25th, 2012, I did some wondering at the time. Wondering if my dad was watching over me from his heavenly reward…
Well today is the second round of my dad looking at what I am about to have to do… go back to the motor shop to see if anything can be done for the motor I bought so cheap.
Now maybe my dad thinks we should buy another motor – maybe even a new one to save the time and my sanity…?
Oops – can’t blame my dad for that one… but rather the bit of Scottish DNA that I have rolling around in my body. I am tight and hate to spend money on things that I don’t need to… or don’t want to… or…
But the motor was only $50 and that $50 has produced Hundreds of more dollars over this year and 4 months.
Today is a “Blood and Body test” day… off to the Lab shortly… then off to look for a new motor.  No complaints here… I will meet some amazing people today… and some amazing benefits will come from all of this…
Wahoo – I am alive and well… and ready to go!

The Amazing Work of the Salvage Crew of the Costa Concordia

A ‘Job of a Lifetime’ is the way that one diver described the righting of the big ship Costa Concordia off the coast of Italy.  I am in awe of what they have accomplished with this amazing feat.

I watched the short video that has been prepared and shown on the BBC web site – Costa Concordia: Stricken ship set upright

From what I have read the Costa Concordia is much larger than the Titanic was. That is a bog WOW from my side of the table.

Here is another good account of what happened… read this

The thought I had today as I read all of this… you can do amazing things if you take your time, think it through and then work diligently to the final goal.

Lots to think about today.

Way to go salvage crew!! Way to go!

Thank You to the Guys of the Public Works Division Team of the City of Peterborough

This post today is to say a BIG Thank You to a Crew of Guys that work for our City of Peterborough… and specifically the Team that have been working to replace the sidewalk along Western Ave… where we live.

The old sidewalk was sagging broken and miserable for anyone like my Mom to walk on with her walker.  A wheel chair was just as bad in that it shook the dickens out of anyone traveling along the walk.

When this project started we realized immediately that it was going to possibly go on for a few weeks (or maybe longer if rained).  It could possibly mean that getting my Mom out to her weekly programs and sometimes Doctor’s appointments very difficult – if not impossible!  When I had watched what had happened just up the next block with the wide chasm I shuddered to think what we were facing.

One call to the City Department in charge of construction meant that a real person came to our home to see what was needed to be done. Glen Perritt, Inspector from the Public Works Division, was at our door the very next morning to see how they could help us.

For the past three weeks we have watched the progress of the old lumpy sidewalk disappear, the driveway approach being cut and removed, and then the gravel being dumped into the area that was opened up.  At the end of each day’s excavation, construction, form building, cement pouring and then the paving stages… this amazing Team from the Public Works Division of the City of Peterborough made sure that Great Grandma Lincoln could access the outside world.  Not once did we have to call for help.

For that reason today I am writing this post in honor of these Guys and then Team Work that they are capable of… and that they accomplished.

Thanks Guys it was very helpful.

BTW – on the days that 92 year old Great Grandma Lincoln didn’t have to go out to a program she sat and watched the action on the street.

Finally, yesterday, when the pavement was being poured out, waddled down, then rolled into place… the guys stopped for a minute to stand with her for a photo.  (To the management… it was less than 30 seconds and this old gal loved it!)

Thank You – Thank You – Thank You!  You did a great job in every way.

Hang on for the ride of a week

So it started with a story about an African Pastor that watched a video on YouTube… and was divinely inspired.  Apparently he saw an American Pastor ride a Zip Line to the platform. So he set it up the Sunday AM – and then zipped away. Not realizing the length or time it would take… or his weight factor – he fell down 10 feet – broke clay water bottles and his leg.  No kidding! Read about and see the video of the American Pastor here

Here is the American Pastor’s video… Click Here

But that then led me to another site that was way too much fun… How to write a worship song in 5 minutes or less This young guy hit the nail on the head and every senior I know will love this video!!!

Whoa – I found the video on the Three Kinds of Churches – way too funny… what a trip!

My sides hurt from laughing – I have attended all these churches!!!

So it started with a strange story about Africa… and ends with me taking way too much time on one silly adventure… and you following me.

Now they were funny – weren’t they?

Trying to find Hope for the Ray of Hope in Kitchener, Ontario

Trying to find Hope for the Ray of Hope in Kitchener, Ontario

I knew it wouldn’t take long before a local charitable group would feel the sting of an authoritarian Government person.

Wow!

The Kitchener, Ontario group known as “Rays of Hope” was notified on August 27, 2013 that their practice of getting food prepared outside of the place that it will be served in will be shut down… specially if the food is prepared in kitchens that are not inspected by a food inspector from the health department.

Jon Hill, the director of Rays of Hope, is expected to give the health department all the names and addresses of the people and places where the food is prepared. Then if these places will be continuing the practice of preparing the food for the Rays of Hope they have to prove they are certified to do so.

When the new health regulations were passed into law where the local church or community group could no longer serve food not prepared in the inspected kitchen, I knew what was coming.

Now the first group that is being targeted in Ontario is one that feeds 250 homeless folk… that might be finding their normal food in garbage bins behind restaurants or hotels.  Yes, they do just that!

Yet it is the same government that will not provide enough money for the social network to live appropriately.

How many funerals are provided for by dear old saints of God making a few sandwiches for the funeral of their dear old friend?  Mind you the dear old saint had a pretty little kitty walking around on her counter top admiring the salmon smell.  Or in another case the family dog went berserk when the doorbell rang and the stirring up a good tablespoon full of dog dander in the house as it ran around in circles greeting the visitor at the door… with the plate of sandwiches being made then… yuk!

Okay. Okay. Food preparation is important.

Yesterday I ordered a hamburger at a Wendys in Whitby. It was cold and when I took the first bite I saw red meat inside!  Yuk!  Taking it back to the apologetic staff made it possible to be given a hamburger twice the size… which I bit into taking a long hard look before chewing.

I can see the health department’s rules and regulations and why they should be.

I can also see the need that the “Ray of Hope” kind of ministries have.  No government is stepping up to give funding to the group so they go to kind hearted people that care.

So where does the answer come from?

Jon Hill will be shutting down a valuable help to homeless people soon if something doesn’t give.  Please note that government leaders will not likely intervene too soon… because they would have to do something… like supply much needed funding for staff and equipment to run the program… and government usually remains quiet when it really matters (other than getting votes for re-election).

Now sit back and give your head a good shake. Can you believe it?  I can.

Rest In Peace Rochus Misch

What went through Rochus Misch’s mind that day? He was alone with the man that was considered to be on of the worst people to ever have lived. A person that orchestrated the murder of millions of Jews as the “Final Solution” was his close friend and his ‘Boss’.  He had been with this Boss for many years.

In 2005 when he was interviewed he described his Boss as “a very normal man”.

Misch stated, "He was a wonderful boss," Misch said. "I lived with him for five years. We were the closest people who worked with him ... we were always there. Hitler was never without us day and night."

Can you even begin to imagine what it was like to be that close to the most evil person in the world and think he was normal and wonderful?

His Boss was Hitler. And Mr. Misch was one of his close staff members that was there the day that Hitler committed suicide in that bunker below ground. The Russians were closing in on Berlin and had surrounded it – the war was over.

The statement I read this morning said, “He recalled that on April 22, two days before two Soviet armies completed their encirclement of the city, Hitler said: "That's it. The war is lost. Everybody can go."

I felt a sorrow all over again as I read these words.

One little man with a huge attitude had nearly destroyed everything… and two men stood by thinking that he was wonderful and good Boss to work for…

Rochus Misch died yesterday, September 5, 2013 at 96 years old.  He was born July 29, 1917.  He is now gone.

I can’t help but wonder what his thoughts were after he heard all that he must have heard – about what the war his Boss had launched on… and the number of people that were killed over those years….

And on Thursday September 5, 2013 he entered his “reward” in and to the afterlife.  I wonder who greeted him?

For the Misch family I think of you today. You knew love and appreciation for your father and grandfather.  You stood by him I am sure – but you too will be thinking of all that happened during his life.

May you too – Rest In Peace.

How stupid can some people be? Part 2

Continuing along the same line as the guy that swallowed the toe in the Yukon… is another few stories that make me shake my head over and over again.

First comes the story of the man in Nebraska that is suing Walmart, and a maker of the plastic bags that Walmart used at their checkout counters to place the customer’s purchases in.

This man’s wife shopped at Walmart and the poorly trained bagger(so the man claims) placed too many goods in a plastic bag.  It is assumed here that the plastic bag was either faulty or something went wrong on the way out of the store or in the parking lot… and the bag broke The contents of the bag spilled downwards and hit his wife’s big toe – causing a gash in or on her toe.

That was in April 2010.  In March 2011 the poor woman died. The toe was infected and the infection apparently killed her 11 months later.

Really – it is true!  The man in now suing Walmart and the plastic bag maker for her death – in 2013!!!

I can see the man is in distress and likely still grieving the loss of his poor wife – but for a law suit to come that long after the fact – come on!  Walmart will defend itself for sure.

Guess who is smiling in this story?  Yep – you guessed right – Lawyers. Lawyers, the right one of course, found poor Mr. Freis and found a money making role for themselves.  Bingo!  What a great day for lawsuit!!!

Good luck Mr. Freis…

Locally our community has been entertained by the antics of our City Council.  The antics of any city Council can be most entertaining at the best of times. Look at Toronto and Mayor Rob Ford, his cohorts and all those that oppose everything the poor Mayor tries to do.  If it wasn’t for a potential war in Syria and the whole of the Middle East, that bog ole Mayor Robbie would be gobbling up more press time, more TV time and more YouTube time than anyone in the world.  Talk about stupid!  Stupid rules!  And behind stupid is likely a lawyer given advice and collecting dollars.

Arggh!  You knew that I was going here… our local City Council and all of the players… including one scary Mayor.  Not all but a large percentage of the City Council think “Mayor Bennett thoughts”. They have to in that he is bigger, smarter and more powerful than they are… so when they think, they think what he thinks.  That is just the way it is in politics… and it is likely the reason that most really capable people keep out of politics.

Whew – that was a load of unverified slobber wasn’t it!?

In Peterborough about a year and a half ago now, the Mayor made headlines by speaking against the local police chief at a number of local community events.  The Mayor of Peterborough doesn’t think that our police force is worth the money our city has to fork out to get the job done – basically.  He feels that they, the police, are gouging the city for more and more money. And then he makes a point of telling everyone he can how bad those guys all are.

Okay it is political and political people try hard to make political points wherever they can.

When it boiled down to the final stages of confrontation about a year ago, Mayor Bennett was made to step down from his seat(not actively participate) at the Police Services Board.

Wooieee – did it ever get hot around our good old city! When the Mayor gets upset, everybody isn’t happy either. Kind of like, “When mama aint happy, aint nobody happy!” And you don’t want to get mama unhappy – believe me.

Well you don’t want to get the mayor unhappy either – cause stuff happens.

In the article printed in the last few days you can read all about what will happen next. Wow! Read “Mayor aiming for broad changes to police commission rules”

Mayor Bennett feels that his own rights were trampled on when “he was suspended from actively participating as a member of the board”.  He is out to change it so he can sit on the board and say whatever he likes to whoever he likes to say it to – no matter how confidential it may or may not be! ‘Cotton pickin’ stupid people – you should know that it is your right to say whatever you want to say about the confidential things said and done in any board meeting! Stupid people!!!!

How could I point out something so ridiculous on the part of people that are criticizing important people like a Mayor!?!

I served as a minister for well over 35 years. I was on Boards of many kinds and was the Chair of many Boards during that time. More specifically on the Board of Leaders, Board of Elders, Official Church Board…whatever you call them – I was the Chair… and an active member of every Board.

In that vital to role of leadership locally many things were discussed by each Board that was considered confidential. When each member took up the role they had agreed to they also knew instinctively that they were not to share with anyone what was being discussed at our Board meetings. We kind of knew that taking this important role was a huge responsibility and we should not, could not speak about what happened in our meetings.

Now suppose someone on the Board that I served on decided they just had to tell the press what our last meeting was all about?  Suppose that someone decided to get up at a Lion’s Club meeting and tell how the teenager in our church just did to his family and how Sister Soandso had a bad case of the runs, had an accident at church and had to go home earlier – now not wanting to attend any longer!! Poor Sister Soandso!!!

Would you trust a Church Board member that did that to you?

Well my dear Mr. Mayor we have lost a whole lot of trust on this one.

BUT GUESS WHAT!?  At the “committee of the whole” this week, the Mayor’s Lawyer announced for the Councillors and the city that the Mayor would be challenging the whole system of Government interference into local people’s rights to speak their minds openly!!  Imagine a lawyer speaking before the fact… do you think maybe that cost something?  You betcha!

Now another cost factor that we all will pay for – how can the Mayor or anyone so entrenched in getting their own way, do a proper job of what they should be doing?

I had mentioned to my friends that I had attended a local retirement function for Police Officers of our area.  It was a wonderful affair and quite amazing. It was also an honour to be invited.  BUT I didn’t see the city leaders there and it miffed me.

The mayor of our fine city was nowhere to be seen!  Another mayor was there but not ours!!

I asked the retiree why the Mayor wouldn’t come to this special day. His answer stopped me short. “The Mayor wasn’t invited. Last year when he came he stood up and tore the Police Chief apart.  He won’t be invited again!”

Whoa!  Decorum be dammed!  Speak your mind wherever and whenever you like.  At a retirement party you can dam well say what you want!  Why? Well because you are the Mayor and that is all that matters.  Tear the Police Chief apart in front of the Police Officers that he is the leader of is plain stupid. Yes it happened!

I am living in a stupid world. I used to have to sit and let stupid rule… but I don’t anymore.

I can say with the little boy at the side of the road, “Look Ma… the Emperor has no clothes!”

Ya. Ya. I know they all have lawyers… Oh Crap!
