The God Particle – Water Vapour in the Universe – and Men

Now if I have this correct some genius scientists have discovered “the God Particle” as they were doing tests with the Large Hadron Collider. Using this special machine that is situated on the French-Swiss border they have discovered something that has never been detected before.

That something is the “Higgs boson particle”. It is has been referred to as “the God Particle”. This special designation has been a theory of scientists that this is the building block of the Universe. It is the “why it all happened” that they have needed.

Now that is a brilliant supposition, theorization and unbelievable discovery!

Reading more news this morning I was able to catch the story as well of the discovery of water particles in the atmosphere of a heavenly body that is 130 Million Light Years from our planet. That is… the speed of Light travelling at186,000 miles per second multiplied by the number of seconds in a year and then multiplied by the number of years – to get the distance. That is a long ways away from here!

Now that is truly amazing these men (and women) have discovered small particles of water floating in the atmosphere that far away – without ever being there. Read about it here… “Water vapour in exoplanet’ atmosphere hints at its formation”

Doesn’t that blow your mind? Isn’t it amazing that mankind has advanced to that wonderful ability to think things through, develop machinery that sees water vapour on the other side of the Universe, make a machine to discover “the God Particle” and simply turn the world upside down.

Men are so smart! And I mean the male kind of Men!!!

Yet if you post a sign at the edge of a cliff that one should keep away – DANGER! The man reading that sign will creep up to the very edge and look over!!!

If you put a sign on something declaring that there is ‘Wet Paint” present, that same brilliant man that discovers water vapour 130 Million Light Years away – or discovers “the God Particle”… will touch the paint to see if it is really wet!!!!!

Men are so smart at times… but then so stupid other times!

And every woman knows that. Here is to you – Gals!

Dreaming of Giants

Oh my, my, my aching head! I must have dreamed all night.

Last evening my wife and I saw the movie “Jack the Giant slayer”. I was dreaming of Big People all night long… Giants not just people!!!

Critics have stated their displeasure with the movie… I disagree completely. The theatre attendance last night would disagree as well... it was packed out.

The little boy sitting next to me, about 7 years old, sat on the edge of his seat the whole two hours. He loved it.

I loved it too. Critics you again are wrong. My ‘old friends’ need to see this one.

But oh my head….

Three Great Things Happened – making One Great Day

Talk about an interesting day!

Here is the content of the day.

**Granddog – staying for the week while his “family” is in Florida

**Oldest Grandson also staying for the week while the same “family” is in Florida

**Then the phone calls that come to brighten the day…

First: The best Phone Call of the day

When the call came, the number shown was not familiar. The area code was 573?? But the very warm and happy voice on the line was someone I could talk to for hours – and talk about funny!

The dude had found me on the Internet through my Web Page. He needed help with his carving. He was just beginning and wanted to know about the Cowboy Boots that I have carved.

As we talked I heard the heavy drawl from the south. He told me he had now settled in a place about 100 miles south of St. Louis, Missouri. He had been a trucker for most of his life but was now off the road. At one point he explained that he thought “had been diagnosed with that Alzheimer’s thing” when he asked me to repeat the information I just gave him.

I asked if he had been carving for a long time. The answer was “Nope, just starting. When I asked another feller that carves what kind of tools and how many I should buy… the guy asked me how old I was! I told him I was 80. He told me… don’t buy too many tools” Then he roared along with me for the next few minutes.

He contributed that when he and the “boys” wanted a little relaxation they go down a place beside the river with their fishin’ poles and some liquor – catch some fish and get a little happy. He mentioned that they “still make a little moonshine”.

He gave me that tidbit when I told him I might be coming his way some day and maybe we could carve together. Oh boy… have I ever got an invite.

Speaking with my new friend on the phone yesterday was like speaking to “Si Robertson” from the Duck Dynasty the TV Reality Show. (He is the older Uncle with the attitude and strong opinions.)

My new 80 year old friend is now connected and will try to build on this friendship.

Second: ‘Oldest Grandson also staying for the week while the same “family” is in Florida’.

His name is Clifford. And this week he is going in for his very first job interview. It is something that he has been working on for over a year now. Yesterday he asked lots of questions about what I thought he should say or do. As I listened to him I was hearing a young man speaking to me. He will be 18 in a few weeks and the whole world is in front of him… but he still wants to have some input from Grandpa. (I don’t think he is asking much from Dad and Mom… ahem… still a teenager that way ;-)

Just hanging out with Clifford yesterday… having him go along with me… sat together drinking a Tim Horton’s Coffee… watching him win his first free Donut on the “Roll up the Rim” contest… was way more fun than a Grandpa should have in one day.

I remember when this little guy arrived. He wasn’t little at all. One big baby… and our first Grandchild. Whoa! We were driving steadily from Saskatchewan to Ontario. He couldn’t wait for us to get there. He arrived after we left Chicago and before we got out of Michigan at Port Huron. The steady series of phone calls to Ontario kept us informed as to each stage – his Dad had called home numerous times with new messages for their answering machine!!!

Yesterday I was with a Young Man who will soon be out of High School – maybe going back for another semester but will be applying for University very soon.

Yesterday was one of the special times that only a Grandpa can really appreciate. WOW!

Third: Granddog – staying for the week while his “family” is in Florida

The Granddog is named Sherman. He is a mixture of Jack Russell and Beagle. And most of all it is just too smart for his own good.

To explain what happened fully I have to tell you that Grandma (my wife Alida) has decorated our bed with a handmade crocheted bedspread. On top of the bedspread is a collection of cute and cuddly teddy bears… all arranged to complete our family and room decoration.

Yesterday the Granddog disappeared. He was nowhere to be found! My wife looked outside, wondering if we had forgotten to bring him in. She went to the basement and to the front room – and all the places that are possible for the dog to get to in our house. Sherman had gone!

Passing through the bedroom at least two times she missed his hiding place… right there among Grandma’s Teddy Bears… blending right in perfectly… and watching her every move.

Too funny. Here are the ‘evidence’ photos for one guilty dog.

In all it was a wonderful day… one that I will not soon forget... one that may never be repeated.

Double WOW – I am smiling as I start this day. Job interview should be fun. The Dog is watching me now – ready for me to get going… Oh Boy…

My Mom – Citifinancial – and $5500 gift cheque

My Mom – Citifinancial – and $5500 gift cheque

To understand this posting you must “see” what is taking place. I will try to help you with the following description.

As I looked up from my laptop screen my mother was walking toward me with great effort. She is pushing her walker slowly with each step coming with concentrated effort. At this point in life her brain is not getting the signal to her feet as fast as it used to. In fact, as mom describes it, “My feet seemed to be glued to the floor.”

My mom is slowing down considerably in the last few years. In fact I can say that she has almost stopped at times. The body has worked hard to keep up with her mind but is now not so good at keeping up with it all.

Now you need to know something further about my mom. She is 92 years old and she has lived with us for the past 6 years. This month is her anniversary month in Peterborough, Ontario – having moved here from Regina, Saskatchewan in 2007.

In 2007 she was still quite mobile but signs of her slowing were then appearing. Within the 6 years she has started to use her walker that she now depends on for 100% of her mobility. Within the last year she is now using her transfer chair more often when she is in large crowds of people or has to be ferried in and around busy places like the Mall or Church.

Mom has aged physically and it is now showing on the outside.

But she is also aging inwardly as well. It takes time to think things through.

That is the point that I introduce “Citifinancial” and their recent letter to Marion Lincoln (Mom).

The top of their letter reads…

Mom got a little excited. Here this wonderful company was willing to give her $5500 cash and all she needed to do was go down and register with this certificate/letter… before noon and they would likely be able to give her the cheque the same day!!!! Imagine!

Mom saw the $5500 and the same day… and thought maybe this would help in some way financially.

The offer is valid until April 8, 2103.

The words that stand out in bold print are “Pick up your cheque at:” (then it gives the local address).

If she didn’t live with us and then responded on her own – I would likely be visiting the Citifinancial folk to reverse the $5500 somehow. Unless of course Mom had spent it already… or given it away to some poor soul!

As I pondered my Mom’s situation and the ease with which this kind promotion can be presented… and then leave a sense that we are getting something for nothing… and pay who knows what back in interest rates… I WONDER what other old gal fell into the money trap.

Am I saying that Citifinancial is bad or not correct in doing what they do regularly? Not at all. They are likely really good folk working there each week. They are well known for sure.

I am saying that the letter and the way that it comes so subtly it is not easy for a 92 year old to understand… and that the same lady was expecting me to do something about it when she brought me the letter.

Note here as well: this same 92 year old will feel a real guilt trip when the different societies send her ‘trolling letters’ – after they send her the name/address labels for her to use free of charge… with a request for donations for their cause.

Mom and her generation can be made to feel guilty for almost anything… and they just have to send money.

My generation doesn’t do that.

Oh boy – who gave Citifinancial my 92 year old mother’s mailing address anyway? Oh oh… I can bet it was a group that sends out the “free” labels.

Gayle Zolaturiuk got the $30 Million

Dang it! Gayle won the big bucks! Gayle Zolaturiuk got the $30 Million. She discovered that she had won the March 2, 2013 LOTTO 6/49 and her heart began to beat faster.

In the statement that I read she told folks that she would go on a shopping spree and then maybe buy a new house.

I guess if it happened to me I might do the same too.

But with a little research I found a stat that declares 70 percent of the people that win a large amount of money will lose it in a few years. The money is often gone. What they buy they cannot afford or keep. They lose all that stuff as well. Read this Link to see some of the comments that are suggested about this.

What should be done in the case of winning a large sum of money… maybe to prevent the losing of all that you have gained so suddenly.

Here is the suggestion that Wkihow is offering “How to deal with Winning the Lottery”

If you do not go broke within the two years you might see it happen just a little later – after you pay the tax, pay the lawyers, pay the accountants, and financial advisers in order to keep some of it.

The lack of Savvy to look after money and the Discipline that is needed to keep what you have is the major problem that I see. It is also what a number of other writers have suggested.

I note one thing here. The people that Win Big and the ones that Lose Big – do not write about it.

There are lost to people advising you as to what should be done. All of the advice you will need will cost money.

Then there are all the people that want a piece of what you have won just because they know you or are related to you. Who would I give money to and why would I give it to them.

Someone once told me that a man they knew well at work won the $1 Million Plus prize. The first phone calls he had were from Charities of all kinds that work the Winners. Because you can get credit for the gifts you give to lower the Tax that you pay in our good old Canada – these folks work the phones immediately.

It is March and Gayle has caused me to think it over carefully.

Naw – I am too busy to Win Big and having fun with my freedom. Too much big money real fast would ruin what I enjoy now. Naw – not worth it… I think… kind of… maybe… might…naw..?

BTW – Good Luck Gayle – we are happy for you and delighted that you won. You deserve it!

Big Camels in the High Arctic, Prime Minister Harper, and the Alliance Church haters mixed with Global Warming

Talk about funny! I sure needed this story this morning. It is something to mull over for the next few hours that I spend with Joseph, the statue, in the Catholic Church.

Imagine a Camel, and a big one at that, living in the High Arctic of Canada!

Then the comment section at the end of the article is even better. Where a lot of very wise and stupid people join together to spar with one another verbally over whatever is bugging them in their lives.

One comment caught my attention and I grinned from ear to ear – almost laughing out loud!

Cynthia Tyler asked, “who is Harper? and why does he have a church named after him?”

Artic Camels? Harper? Harper’s church? What the dickens are you talking about?!?

See I told you it was funny and that it is something to mull over.

You really need to take a little time and read this short article/report about, “Giant ancient camel remains discovered in Canadian Arctic”

Then when you read about the Camels and the things that they are discovering… scroll down to the bottom and read the comments. That is where you will find stuff about Harper… church… evolution… camels… Suzuki (not the motorcycle or car but a man) – etc.

This is something that I didn’t know and found out only today… that the people that swear by global warming… and the fact that men and women are causing all this weather change problems… have created a term called “Harper’s alliance church” to describe anyone or anything that doesn’t believe their stories.

I am not sure about anything when I type this stuff… Harper goes to an Alliance Church? All Churches believe nutso stuff because they call themselves Christians – therefore they are like Harper??? Good Lord – what is the news media coming to – or from? Talk about distortion… and weird.

For poor Cynthia… Harper is Canada’s Prime Minister – the legal head of our Canadian Government – for a little while now. Harper doesn’t like Suzuki, a leading TV personality, that promotes Global warming and other scientific stuff that flies in the face of people that attend church – at least some of them. And from what I grasp from these small bone fragments they are assuming Mr. Harper is an Alliance follower – i.e. a Born Again kind of Christian – rather than the ordinary not Born Again Christian that just goes to worship God and not bug other people… And apparently the poor Born Again Alliance kind of people has messed with the pure religion of Global Warming.

See what I mean – you need to read the article.

What is so hard to believe about a Camel being found in Canada’s far north? They have found Mastodons (Bigger than big Elephants) – so why not a Camel? They are finding Oil in very cold places and Oil is made up of remnants of old forests and vegetation that once grew there.

And the really funny thing is, if our good old Canadian landscape was once covered by Glaciers that slowly melted and ended up uncovering what we call home… there were no cars or huge factories to blame back then that are supposed to be destroying the Ozone layers!!!

There were only Mastodons and Big Camels eating, farting and crapping all over the top of the world before the Glacier started retreating. No – wait a minute I haven’t got that right… the Glaciers came on top of all of the world because the Animals stopped causing the world to stay warm… then something else started coming along and warming it all up.

It wasn’t Harper’s church… Harper was not born yet and no one can blame the poor guy. He isn’t guilty of Global Warming he is a Conservative; and all that means is HE WILL NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE ELSE’S OPINION. CONSERVATIVES ARE ALWAYS RIGHT!

And just because some Christians are thinking they are ALWAYS RIGHT that doesn’t give anyone the right to label a group as “Harper’s church”! Sheesh!

I told you that it is FUNNY – read about it. And whatever you are religiously, or not, you will smirk when you realize all this stuff started with one small bone found after the snow melted in the Arctic.
