I am so excited about Spring this year – Just 15 more Days

I love the Spring Season when everything changes.

But as I watched the weather report last evening I was shocked to see the huge storm that was passing south of us – south of the Great Lakes – i.e. Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. The weather man said that it would likely travel all the way to Florida.

Can you imagine – spring is almost here and more snow is falling in the USA.

Yes – Spring is only 15 days away for winter bound Canadians. Yet we have also had big dumps of snow making our cities un-driveable just last week.

Yet there is hope that the snow will be gone shortly and the warm weather will return.

One sign that I witnessed in the last two days was the sap beginning to drip from the Maple Tree branches. With the warmer days and the cooler nights just down enough to freeze there has been icicles hanging from the tree.

Another sign of Spring is the School Break season that is coming up this next week. That means the shut-in Canadians that have survived the long winter of snow and cold are heading south. Some of our family members are going to be in Florida as well.

Oh boy… that means I have a week to worry and fret. Along with the arrival of Spring comes the new threat of Tornados for the area between Canada and Florida! Double – the Oh Boy!

As I stopped to think of what I was doing with all these thoughts I realized that I was getting myself worked up for nothing. I cannot change the weather or the events that are causing the different weather changes.

I can fret over everything and can change nothing!

What a tremendous thought for the day. I need to readjust the thinking patterns. I need to relax and let things happen. I need to enjoy this day as much as possible and live this week as full as I can.

This day is going to be amazing. This opportunity to live will be better than ever before. The people that I will meet are truly going to be the most interesting. God has a plan for me – today – to live this day to the fullest.

Wow! I am going to live this one fully – IT IS MINE!

Now some of you reading this may be asking what happened to make this shift take place…

Yesterday I was in the Chapters book store in our city. As I was paying for my magazines the Cashier asked me if I was a ‘Graphic Artist’. I smiled and replied, “Kind of… I work with Photoshop and do digital images. I read these to improve me abilities even at this older age.”

Then I said something that kind of shocked even me… “I am soon turning 69 years old and still love learning something new…”

She had a big smile on her face and replied, “Good for you!” I think she truly meant what she said.

According to stats and also some ancient books I am entering the last decade of my life. In Canada the average male will live to 77 years old (2000 – 2002 stat) that has risen each decade by two years… so in my case it is 79 years. Check that stat here…

At this next birthday I will have 10 Big Years to live each day – long and well!

So you see this Springtime is very important to me… more important than ever before! I have 10 Spring-times left!

I gotta run folks… I have some big things to do today! How about you?

Justin – Justin – Justin – the kiddies have to go to bed earlier

I do not usually follow the music world celebs… and doing the Oscar route plus all the other film type hypes… is just not my thing. I could care less.

But sometimes things do stick… and that happened this week.

Justin Bieber had his 19^th Birthday in London England. The party mode was dulled and he was downed by the local, rather famous nightclub and not allowing him and his entourage to come in because they were too young… or rather they couldn’t supply adequate I.D. to prove how hold they were… was a downer!!! Poor Justin!

He said it was his worst Birthday ever! He tweeted that to 35 Million Fans – duh! Not in Britain!!!

Now doing such a thing and saying anything in Britain is plain stupid. With their newspaper attack mode that is possible – they will eat you alive.

Last night Justin didn’t start his show until almost 10:30 PM – while his fans waited in the audience from 8:30 PM on…

Problem is that many of his fans are very young – like one report stated FIVE YEARS old! And many are around 10 through to 13 years old.

Kiddies have got to get to bed… and an ornery child in a big crowd, sleepy, cranky, upset will cause mom and dad problems – specially when they paid good dollars to see Justin Bieber!

Justin has had one very bad week following his growing up date of 19 years old. Next year he will no longer be a teenager… even though he acts like a little kiddo.

Yep the story caught my attention big time! Remember he was “discovered” away back in 2008!

What does a teen idol do when they are no longer able to do what the crowd expects them to do? Where do old teen idols go… back to school? Maybe finish high school or even college? Or are they too popular and continue to be until they hit 50 or so… and the wrinkles show up.

What were Justin and his group doing that made people wait two hours?

Ready for a Fantastic Holiday – Up, Up and Away

Ready for a Fantastic Holiday – Up, Up and Away

We have been dreaming of a vacation away from all that we do each day. With my 92 year old mother living with us each day is pretty full of care giving and all that it entails.

We are not just dreaming but now drooling! But there are times that it seems impossible.

Today I have found however an ideal vacation for my wife and me. The best part the vacation is that it will last over 500 days – or just under two years. And it will be all paid for.

There is some preparation I am assuming but we are in very good shape physically and mentally. We have been very close as a couple for 46 years of marriage. And because we are now Seniors we will make a unique mark on in the History Books.

Even as I type these words out I am even more excited.

What do we have to do to get ready? Well we will have to prepare for some physical stuff. No – not like climbing mountains or anything like that… but rather like riding a bicycle each day to get our ‘sitters’ ready. But then again the sitter will not have the same pressure applied to it on this vacation.

From what I have read about the vacation it does require each person to ride a stationary bike each day that will force the body to keep in shape.

Instead of eating a huge buffet aboard a cruise ship we will lose weight because the food intake will be controlled and carefully calculated for each passenger – the two of us only!

There is one small set back however that may turn off my wife. It kind of makes me grimace a little as well. We will be drinking our own urine for the most part of the trip. But while that seems a little extreme we will be drinking from the very best filter system ever! We use a Brita Water Filter now – but the one we will use on this trip is much, much better.

We will be riding in a small pod that is about as big as cube van. And the small drawback is that you cannot get out of the cube van for the full holiday.

Now you have already guessed that it is Space Travel – right?!

Yep that’s what it is. If she agrees we will be able to fly to Mars, around Mars and then back home again.

When it takes place I will be about 73 years old. My wife is much younger however. And someone else will be taking care of my Mother for that time away… mind she will be 97 or so when it happens.

How can this happen?

Well a very rich man, Dennis Tito, is offering this trip to and around Mars, and then back home again to a couple that is willing to go.

I am willing and so is my wife… I am sure of that. And I am also sure of the fact that few other couples our age will take up the offer… they couldn’t handle the drinking urine part. Couples our age don’t eat strange foods or go anywhere unusual. Their worlds are pretty tight when it comes to new experiences or going to new places. And unless the vacation spot has a good golf course, good beaches and big buffets – they won’t go… or even consider it.

There is some draw backs to this trip. There is a possibility of radiation bombarding the craft. That radiation could cause some Dementia and/or Cancer.

But with the way that things go normally in my world it will be Dementia or Cancer that will take us anyway. Getting it as a result of the travel to Mars would be okay.

And because the younger couples will do all they can to avoid getting this kind of sickness – an old couple will be the best choice. I am sure of that! With us it doesn’t really matter.

Now a thought… at 73 or 74 – returning after 75 years old… I will be closer to death. What happens if I die on the way? What if we both go? Oh boy… what a thought.

The space craft is set on an autopilot that will guarantee to bring the bodies home. The funeral can take place on Mother Earth… you know ashes to ashes, dust to dust… so that nothing up there pollutes the outer atmosphere.

And with the fact that we would be so famous by that time, the Government will take care of the funeral costs – I am sure!

Dennis Tito… we are ready. Mind you I have yet to tell my wife about the possible journey.

Florida Sinkholes, School Break and my fears

It was hard falling asleep last night. I was thinking about a man by the name of Jeff Bush.

Jeff Bush climbed into bed for a good sleep last week… then it happened… the floor in his bed room dropped downwards. Along with the floor went the bed he was in and all the furniture... the whole contents of the room.

The other folk in the house heard a loud bang and then heard Jeff screaming for help. When his brother came into the room he couldn’t see Jeff but heard him.

Jeremy, his brother, climbed into the chasm to see if he could reach Jeff… but it wasn’t going to happen that way. Jeff was swallowed up by the huge sinkhole that opened directly under his bedroom.

The family left the house and will not be able to take anything with them. They have lost it all.

The house is still there from reports that I have read… but so unstable that no one is allowed inside to get the stuff out. The whole house will likely be swallowed up, unless of course they do something to get the house up and away from the increasing in size hole in the ground.

I would have thought that someone would be able to secure and maybe move it with a huge crane. Wouldn’t that make sense to you?

But no way can that happen because the houses in the neighborhood are all in jeopardy. They all could go down the hole as well. And no one knows the potential size of the hole – widthwise and depth-wise.

I went to sleep last night thinking about Jeff. The poor guy… in his own bed and happy to sleep… only to wake up violently and then die horribly within minutes.

As I researched the sink hole phenomena in Florida it amazed me how many places there has been sinkholes recorded.

So… would you like to buy a house on a beautiful property in Florida? West Central area..?

Next week people I know will traveling to Florida for their school break. Hokey Mokey – should I tell them or show them the map? They might not sleep at night if I do. And some are related to me… Oh Boy!

I am thinking of Jeremy Bush today and wonder how he is doing. I know what it is to lose your brother instantly and without any warning at all. My brother died suddenly one night as well. His body just quit fighting the pain – I think.

As I follow the story I am thankful that I get a little water in my basement from time to time. I don’t mind the leaking roof. Both of these were fixed. I am thankful I live where I do.

Family means “all warm and fuzzy” and I love it!

Family means “all warm and fuzzy” and I love it!

It was a special meeting with family. It took place at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport yesterday.

On Friday morning we were on the road by 10 AM to head off to the Airport in Toronto. It was not as far as the other party had to travel to get there – but for my 92 year old Mom it was an effort… but a wonderful effort.

The people we were going to meet were Jessie and Matt. Jessie is my Mom’s granddaughter… and my niece.

Jessie and Matt had traveled to Montana to ski. Then they went to Las Vegas next for a meeting. Then to home to Calgary for one night, before climbing on to an aircraft for Toronto…where Jessie had to work all week long. And that all took place before Jessie received a top honour for her company for all of Canada.

Oh… I didn’t tell you how proud we are of this young lady.

My Mom’s eyes filled with tears as she watched Jessie. This young lady has meant so much to her. She follows every move she makes and hears all the stories… loving everyone.

Grandma Lincoln doesn’t play favorites to her grandkids – she just loves them all.

March 1, 2013 was a special day.

Following our airport meeting and their departure we headed to Hong Kong for the afternoon. With Mom in her wheel chair we walked all around the Pacific Centre in Agincourt… the gigantic Chinese shopping mall that is just like Hong Kong.

Mom loved it all. She remembered her trips to Hong Kong to visit us when we lived there. We remembered everything and missed our younger years in that wonderful place!!!

We completed the trip to Hong Kong with a big plate of Chinese Dumplings and another plate of sweet and sour pork done Hong Kong style (not Canadian with the red sauce).

But the end of the day happened in Whitby as we watched Great Grandma Lincoln take in her Great Grandson`s hockey practice. And of course we could easily see that Michael Rourke will soon take his first step to the NHL when he comes up for the NHL Draft in a year or so!!!!

March 1, 2013 made me realize again how important family is. Being with Matt and Jessie, seeing Hong Kong again, then being with our daughter and son-in-law made the day perfect. To top it off – it was our son-in-law Bill`s birthday to boot!

Sheesh… all warm and fuzzy today!!! Thanks family!

The Snow fell and cleaned it all up… but the message of the Victims lingers on

The Snow fell and cleaned it all up… but the message of the Victims lingers on

If you read my ‘report’ of the “Coping and Thriving” symposium (the last post) that was put on by the VAC (Victim’s Advisory Committee) – two days ago… you may notice the deep affect that it had on my mind and life. I am still sorting it through.

Usually I try to write and then post each day… usually the words flow easily. That didn’t happen yesterday.

I think God sent the snow storm just for me. The snow blowing and the shoveling that I did for hours at a time… helped me clear my mind a little. The purity and softness of the snow helped to wash some of the emotions clean.

I thought about each person in each family… and also the men that committed the crimes. I thought about the freedom that I enjoy and that they do not.

As you can see I am still thinking.

And the snow kept falling… and falling… making my world enjoy a complete make-over. Everything was clean again….

So with little to say even today and still processing the words of Tuesday… I offer the clean snow of Peterborough’s February 27-28, 2013 snow fall.

Thank you God, for the cleansing.
