Today’s Blog Post
Where is the needle on your Worry Meter?
A solar storm is taking place now and in the next few hours…I could be nuked somehow and it could affect the power grids all over the place.
Apple Computer company released its new iPad that is faster and better than all before, but not as good as the one that will come next and the one that will come after that one… and it is $499 (only) but I am still dreaming about owning the first iPad or the second iPad2…
Poor Peyton Manning got the short end of the stick and he is out of the Colts locker room. Poor guy was crying when he was saying good bye… but if he stayed someone was going to pay him $28 million signing bonus or something.
My MP in the Canadian Parliament embarrasses me because he can’t give a straight answer and makes everyone in Peterborough look stupid.. or something…
The Government is changing society with its new Legislative Bills and they are caught up screaming about what happened in the last election… while stuff is slipping through… and answers to questions asked are given really weird twists. I think it is called “Baffle Gab”. Many people have lost faith in the politicians…
The American Political world is reported more in Canada than our own political stuff is… are we soon to be American… maybe after the Solar Storm hits us… maybe…?
My mind swirls with weird stuff today… and I am not sure where to look for sanity!
How about you?
Where is your worry meter’s needle today? Mine was getting close to “I don’t give a Ding Dong anymore!”
But there is hope… and this is so off the wall… I cleaned up a pile of old books and some other things too that came to me very quickly one day. WOW!
I found my favorite Water Bottle that I have been looking for over the last two months!
And in the book pile I found a treasure chest of material that will help me immensely in the next stage of my business! What a find!
I turned from the crappy news that has come my way and am delighted in my new finds.
The Worry Meter’s needle just moved to a better spot… to “Today is going be okay…!” and “Tomorrow will be much better!”

Today’s Blog Post
My Silent Movie World – “The Artist”
I was shocked into a world of the almost silent. The screen was filled with nothing but black and white images. But it wasn’t completely silent in that there was movie music woven all through the show.
Does that sound complicated for you.
Last evening my wife and I saw “The Artist”, a movie about the silent movie days and the transformation to the newer talking movies (sound movies).
During the silent movie era people might have had a live orchestra playing down front as the action on the screen took place… or they may have had a single piano player spicing up the movie with his ability to entertain.
Last night we were whisked back to the ear between 1927 and 1932. My mom was 5 years old way back in 1927 – so it really predates her 91 years.
I listened to the people around me in the theatre. There was dead silence for the most part and yet some did laugh out loud at the appropriate places. And the audience was 90% people my age… with a mixture of the sharper young adults.
I doubt I could get my grandkids to sit through this one. Not nearly enough noise and action. This one required a person to think the entire way through the story that you knew was going to go a certain way.
BTW – every Old Car buff needs to see this movie. This show was loaded with dozens of vehicle from the early days of the automobile.
My head is still feeling the sense of the silent movies. Oddly enough I can hear the music this morning early.
You gotta go… it is not likely to be back in the theatres again real soon… you gotta go…. Before the lack of blood a guts and explosions blows this one away…go!

Today’s Blog Post
Pass it on – Mission Impossible
This morning I am attempting to do the impossible. I generally am very positive in all that I say and do… but this one is going to be a hard nut to crack.
Although I have not met the audience I know some simple facts about them. They are older people. The name of the group is “Learning and Leisure” and they meet once a month in a United Church in the north end of the city.
I have to be there and set up by 9:15 AM and the doors open at 9:00 AM. I have got to move my butt to get it all done.
The meeting time and the speaking part that I have is not all that long. In fact the planning, scheduling, preparing and getting my thoughts together has taken 10 times the amount of time that I will actually be allowed to speak. Oh boy.
Impossible was my word… in a few minutes time I intend to get a group of Senior people, all set in their ways, many with reoccurring physical problems and many with very full lives… to consider changing their ways of thinking… and doing things with the youth in their families.
I am going to ask them to consider doing something to let their grandkids, and great grandkids know what Grandpa is really all about.
I am asking each man and woman present to consider doing something to pass on their personal interests and abilities to their next generations.
No problem – right?
Don’t believe that for a minute. There are huge problems with this challenge.
The first challenge is that the Grandparent of 2012 is too busy to do such a thing. Their lives are more complicated now that their own aging is in charge of their whole life. Their early warning signs of ailments and the natural aging process with its breakdown of body parts, has limited them.
Add to this, their own family is so busy and the grandkids are so booked up that time with Grandparents is limited to impossibly complicated family visits that nothing of interaction happens between the younger and older group – at all.
If the teen does come over, he or she will be plugged into their electronic device continually. What they do now has separated them forever from their siblings, parents and grandparents. Even if the teen (grandchild) tried to talk to Grandpa about what they do or are interested in… Grandpa simply wouldn’t understand.
And that is only a few of the family obstacles that we face today.
There is a need to connect our aging present to the young person’s future, before we are gone.. or they are.
How will I do it?
On the table there will be stuff from the past… things that these people may know about… things that their parents and grandparents used and knew about… but they no longer use personally. The humor of that alone will strike my first point home…
On the table will be things that I love doing and that I now try to teach the next generation… my Tatting… my Wood Carving… my stuff of now…
And then finally… I intend to have the reverie of the moment broken by having my Cell Phone go off in the middle of what I am talking about… and I will answer the phone and return the text messages while I am speaking…
How inconsiderate on me to interrupt my own train of thought with the Irreverent and Unholy. Horrible Cell Phone – in a Senior’s meeting!?!
If their grandkids come over for their visit… their Cell Phone will come along as well… and so will their Text Messaging!
If the entire group is not mixed up entirely by the end of this meeting… I have missed my mark and goal.
My alternate title for my message today was possibly… “The irrelevant grandparent…” or “Grandparents – the Dinosaur of 2012”
There is quite a buzz going on right now with the Seniors that are coming to the group today… questioning what Murray Lincoln is going to talk about. The man that is my contact told me last night that, “I couldn’t remember what it was about… so I just told them that it will be good… and that they should come along.”
This should be fun.
Addendum…
I write this following my wonderful experience of speaking to this lively Learning and Leisure group. Their group launched in 1975 and has been going strong ever since. I was very impressed with the people that I met. And when I get a little older I may consider driving across the city to attend this group on a more regular basis.
Thank you Learning and Leisure folk for a great morning together.
BTW – the second presentations yesterday was amazing! We learned about the Victoria’s Quilt program where this amazing group of quilting folk make and supply quilts for cancer patients. Now this I can get involved with for sure! I intend to write more about this later.

An iWarning - This is fair warning to all my not so wise friends
iDEAR???
It all began with an iPhone….
March was when our son celebrated his 17th birthday, and we got him an iPhone. He loved it. Who wouldn’t?
I celebrated my birthday in July, and my wife made me very happy when she bought me an iPad.
Our daughter's birthday was in August so we got her an iPod Touch.
My wife celebrated her birthday in September so I got her an iRon.
It was around then that the fight started..
What my wife failed to recognize is that the iRon can be integrated into the home network with the iWash, iCook and iClean.
This inevitably activates the iNag reminder service.
I should be out of the hospital next week!!

Today’s Blog Post
She rocked back and forth from her left foot, right foot; tension was building in her body. This was the last moment for the biggest play of the entire season. It was now or never. All the other players had failed, on both teams. Now it all depended on this one final action.
No pressure here. Yah right! At this point my heart had almost stopped beating and I was holding my breath. Come on blow the whistle or Grandpa is going to pass out!!!
My granddaughter Emma has been playing indoor soccer since last fall, keeping in shape for the soccer season coming up. She will be moving up to the U14 Girls team, that is the 14 year old girls team. She tried out for the U14 and was picked as a new player for this coming year.
Now I am not bragging too much… just a little more than usual… Emma is good at what she does in soccer. She plays goal very well. And she also plays forward and defense equally well. She is a versatile player and will fit into any position her coach places her. Most of all she is a team player that loves being with other kids!
Okay, okay – now I am really moving into BRAG MODE. I only have one granddaughter so I need not share my Granddaughter Brags with other granddaughters. I do have a problem with grandsons however, there are 5 of them!
Now back to this game that is happening in front of me.
It is Saturday afternoon, March 3, 2012 – about 3:15 PM. Note that date – it is important to the later telling and re-telling of this story in years to come.
This is the winter in-door soccer league, a recreational soccer group of six teams. Parents are serious about this kind of soccer as well as the coaches that stand there with the players at their team bench. The coaches call out the changes and plays from the team bench. The parents, that always know better, call out conflicting or louder instructions from across the playing area… and when something big is about to happen… they scream and cheer and carry on like ordinary, overly excited parents…all the while sucking back their Tim Horton Coffees.
This game is played inside the large white inflated building that looks like a huge igloo, just west of Peterborough. It is the Lion’s Club sponsored Spiplex Sports Dome. (http://www.spiplex.com/). Inside it is a pressurized by fans(not the parents or grandparents - but the kind that are motorized) that constantly blow to keep the building up .
Emma’s yellow shirted team has played one game in the morning and now at the 2:45 PM. This is the last Saturday and a tournament to decide the final and top winning team.
The yellow shirts are playing the red shirts. The red shirts have a giant of a boy that can kick the ball almost the full length of the field to score points. He alone is a foot taller than Emma! They also have some great strikers that seem to have the ability to keep the soccer ball right on their toe.
By the way this is a mixed team effort where the boys play with the girls – a mixed number of boys and girls on each team. Gender means nothing to these girls either. They can strip the ball away from these gangly, early teen boys with ease. To say the least. They can hold their own!
Oh – and yes Emma stripped the ball from the tall boy a number of times… ahem!... and blocked his goal attempts when she stood her ground in net!
Okay – Triple Brag, Brag, Brag!!!
I have strung this out long enough.
The game’s full time has arrived. The teams are tied One – One. For the final, indoor soccer tournament there has to be a winner. This means a shootout by both teams on the opposing goalie.
Both teams line up on the yellow line which is a few meters out from the goalie’s crease. The opposing team’s player stands inside the half circle in front of the goalie. The ball is placed on a spot just over the line, toward the goalie. When the whistle is blown by the referee, the kicker can try for a goal against the very tense goalie – who is now wound up tight!
Five kickers from each team are chosen to try for a goal for their team. Their team kickers alternate kicking. Red shirt first, Yellow shirt next… with the opposing goalies changing places after each kick.
Out of the Five Red tries – one girl scored a point – making the team score 2. Then out of the Four Yellow tries another girl scored another point – making the team score also 2.
Next came Emma, the last of the Five Yellows to try… in the shoot out.
Are you ready for this… when the whistle blew… the stop action in my head did as well. Emma didn’t kick right away…
Later she told me that she looked at the left corner, then at the ball, then at the goalie, repeating this a few times quickly. Emma psyched out the goalie making her think she would try for the one corner… and Emma then shot for the opposite corner, with ease… and the ball didn’t travel fast at any lightening speed… just directly into the corner away from the goalie’s reach!
A cheer went up… Emma’s kick had won the tournament… The Final Score was 3 for the Yellows – 2 for the Reds. Wahoo!
Oh did I ever tell you that I used to play soccer too. But I never, ever kicked a goal that won a tournament.
I am a proud Grandpa today… and the slow motion is now playing over and over in my head. My granddaughter won the game!
SPECIAL NOTE for Emma’s dad Bruce… who is a Funeral Director… (my Funeral Director BTW) – when I die and you place me in the casket… please make my face up with a BIG GRIN… because I will be reliving the Grandkid stories at the moment of my death….!!!!! Thanks Bruce!
AND Emma you ROCK! And you rock my world girl!

Today’s Blog Post
I am Blessed. The Storm of Life is BIG – but I am safe!
Whew! Shovels are all over the deck this morning. The broom was laying a few feet from where it normally stands. And the new garden shed is still standing. I haven’t checked the shingles on the roof yet to see if they are still there… what a night of a wind storm and water flying around.
And all night the crazy Welcome Sign kept tap, tap, taping the door. At some point during the night I was sure that the elves that I draw, or the fairies that I have created were trying to get into the house. My brain wasn’t completely there… in and out. Sheesh.
The wind last night is a whole lot like life sometimes. It comes with a huge warning that it may well cause a huge amount of destruction. The potential to destroy and run havoc over our little habit of survival is real.
BUT by taking measures to prevent the destruction and spend time to make sure that all is secure… we made it through the night. Now just a few more hours of constant blowing and thoughts of more possible damage… we will make it through.
So far our power has not gone out. If it had this post would not have been possible.
Coffee at McDonalds would not have been possible either. Life would be interrupted. But it hasn’t been so far.
I live well. I am happy and healthy. I do have a few aches and pains, but other than a few minutes to get the body moving, all systems are a go!
It is at times like this that I stop and give thanks for what I have. I am happy with what I have done.
I am looking forward to each week with great excitement and relief. Excitement because of what might be possible. And relief for what I survived last week.
My post yesterday proved to me I can survive. The wind last night did the same again. I can survive. I am thankful for all of that part as well.
Putting aside all that has happened last week, next week will be amazing I am sure. Now it may have a few more bumps and even lumps, but God’s Grace will get me through.
I may not preach a lot in this Blog, but by example I share my faith in God. He has never left me nor has he rejected me. Sometimes I didn’t do a lot to make sure he was there nor did I ask him for his guidance. The relief is that he didn’t need my permission or my requests to make it happen – is more than I can imagine. He loves me just the way that I am... WOW!
As I put these last words to my keyboard for today… I say it again, I am blessed. The storm is big and threats are great… but I am safe.
Gotta run, Hot Coffee and a Delicious Muffin are waiting at McDonalds. Life is so good!

Today’s Blog Post
There are time I hate what I have to do
I no sooner completed an email to encourage a friend of mine, when the wind was knocked out of my own sails! That is my reason for not posting yesterday. I just couldn’t get it together. The wind wasn’t there at all.
Sheesh. All the best advice and whamo – I get it in the head, heart, and backside with one email.
Actually it wasn’t the email only, it was good. It was the Link that came with the email telling me the whole story.
A man that I tried to help has been hiding a huge part of his life so that myself and others would not really know what he has done and who he really is. Oh I knew that he had committed crimes in the past and I tried to support him – and those that were actually connected to him… BUT I HAD NO IDEA what was really going on.
This man is a criminal. He was charged, tried and convicted. He went to prison and then finally came out. He found support in our community. BUT he broke the faith of people around him by doing more things that he was not allowed to do. He did that three times and finally he was arrested again and is back inside of the prison again. He will not get out until 2015.
Those that tried to help this man by providing assistance and support have been let down big time. They thought he was listening but he wasn’t. In fact his belligerence was so great that I am sure that he purposed to do just about anything to make sure that no one would be telling him what to do.
Yesterday the wind went out of my sales when I read the full story of how he molested the children that were in his trust. They were very young when he did the horrendous things that he did. Now they are older… some are even grandparents themselves.
And what we have found out is this man takes no personal responsibility for his crime. His has no victim empathy at all. Worse yet, he now considers himself to victimized by the people that brought him out of prison.
I really wanted to “puke” when I finished reading the story over and over again.
Pause here…
The Conservative Government of Canada has an “Omin Bill” on crime that is being shoved through our Canadian Parliament at record speed. I don’t agree with what they are doing as they clump everything into one big lump of law. Things are being done with this that will cost Billions and will treat some people without any consideration at all for rehabilitation.
But at the same time this email and the Web Story of yesterday that knocked my wind out of my sails brings great conflict. This one man should be buried in prison with the worst of the worst – and that would take care of him.
I am in a great dilemma today… and dumping on you – my reader.
I am very tempted to publish all that I know here. But for the fragile state that some readers are in – at any given time – I will not. I will have to deal with this by myself.
There are times I don’t like what I have to listen to. Hokey Mokey! I simply hate it!!!
