Today’s Blog Post

Tired Phrases
I think that this happens to me when I carve wood. As a wood carver I think. I spend huge amount of time just thinking as the chips fly.

As I mulled over my thoughts yesterday I arrived at an odd part of my brain that contains things that should be cleaned out and done away with. There are boxes full of stuff that should be thrown away… but they have never been dealt with.

At one time I used these things but in today’s society there is little use for them. At one time these things were the rage. Everyone used them – even you!

What in the world are you talking about Murray?

Well let’s open one of your boxes and you will find that you have not used these for a long time. In fact when you look at them you will find that most people today, especially the next generation will not know what the dickens you are talking about.

Box Number One
Flip open the flaps… and here it is… “Let’s break this down to the lowest common denominator…”

Now when was the last time you used that phrase or maybe have heard someone use that phrase?

For myself, it was my grade 10 era. I was about 16 years old and my Chemistry teacher used it all the time. The phrase I doubt had anything to do with Chemistry but a whole lot to do with Math.

Checking my Wikipedia I find that there are 211 related posts for this old phrase. I find that it is a phrase that has continued to grow… but it is solidly from the Math World.

Here is an example… quote…
In mathematics, the lowest common denominator or least common denominator (abbreviated LCD) is the least common multiple of the denominators of a set of vulgar fractions. It is the smallest positive integer that is a multiple of the denominators. For instance, the LCD of 5/12, 11/18 is 36 because the least common multiple of 12 and 18 is 36. Likewise the LCD of 5/6, 1/4 is 12. Using the LCD (or any multiple of it, such as the product of the denominators) as a denominator enables addition, subtraction or comparison of fractions:
5/5 minus 1/4 = 10/12 minus 3/12 = 7/12

The lowest common denominator of two vulgar fractions can be found by calculating the least common multiple of their denominators.
End quote.(see the link below)

But when my one friend stated that, “…we needed to get to the lowest common denominator on this problem…” He wasn’t talking about a Math problem.

Most of the readers of this Blog today now have a real time head ache just reading the quote above.

Ready for Box Number Two?
Open the flaps and there it is… “talking about peeling back the layers”

Wikipedia offers 325 possible places where this term is used by one of the posts made on their site.

It is an old phrase for sure. Doing a Google search on this phrase produces 102,000 response in .38 seconds.

It is interesting that this one has morphed into so many uses today. What was old has become new. Originally starting with an Onion from what I can understand, has now become part of the even SEO in writing Web Pages(the hidden use of words to get more people to your site or article).

It is also used in describing “Love” – really!

Ready for Box Number Three?
Shake the dust off this one… “knocking down facades”.

Hokey Mokey this one is older than all the rest in my mind and very hard to find a root for it. It goes way back to the Greeks I think.

A facade was the false front on a building making it look like something it is not.

In California we visited one of the Movie Lots – where they make movies. The entire lot was filled with Facades of all sorts… specially the Wild Western sets. The gun fighters burst out of buildings to shoot each other… and it looked so real. The building they burst out of was about 12 inches deep.

But then most of the movie actors specialize in portraying a façade of one thing or another. Their clothing and an attitude shown at that moment made you think they were tough guys… when in actual fact they were a pussy.

In church today I will see some facades as well. Ahem… and I will show some on mine off as well. It will look like I am praying when I am really… ooops that was secret!

Ready for Box Number Four?
This one is a dusty one and goes way back. Here it is, “sifting through the nonsense”.

Now I am surrounded by nonsense. It is in the news all the time. Each morning I can read of one kind of nonsense or another. But sifting it – why and how would I do that?

Well it first happened for me when I was a very young boy.

My mom had a huge Flower Bin in the Kitchen Cupboard. In the bin was the white flour that she baked with.

Pause there… that idea of a dedicated draw in a Kitchen Cupboard is so 1950-ish! Whoever has that now?!?

In Mom’s Flour Bin was a sifter. It had a handle that I held with my left hand and turning crank that I spun around with my right hand. When the crank was turned the flour that had been scooped up in the sieve was released as a fine powder through a wire sieve into the bowl below.

Why would you ever do that? Isn’t that a waste of time and effort in 2011?

Not really. In 1950 it was common to have little black bugs get into the flour. Their eggs came in the flour from the Flour Mill and then hatched in your Flour Bin. Sifting the Flour got rid of the Bugs. Their eggs were likely still there… but it was the black bodies that we didn’t like in our white cake… the eggs were okay.

So when someone asks me or tells me that they are going to sift through the nonsense, I am expecting that they will go through every thing with a fine tooth comb…

“Going through something with a Fine Tooth Comb” had references to finding the Nits in your child’s of husband’s hair – Nits were the eggs of the Head Lice that was so easy to get at school or work and were attached to the shaft of hair. Itchy yet?

That phrase was filed in the same Box Number Four

Let’s look at Box Number Five – ready?
There it is… the vegetarians can’t use this one… it is all mine… a card carrying, meat loving wretched person that I am (in their eyes)..

What do you think of “simply expose the raw bones of an issue”?

Get my reference to Vegetarians? Their Veggies don’t have bones… and you can’t see anything inside… except vegetables.

Having a raw bone inside tells you if the animal was wounded or not before you cooked it.

The last time I saw this evidence of a raw bone was at Swiss Chalet. The chicken leg I was gnawing on was broken sometime before the chicken was murdered for my plate. There had been a bleed out around the broken bone area of her poor little leg… and the bone was mush.

Worse yet… come to think of it… it might well have had a serious Cancer in that old leg… and I ate it!!!! YUCK! Spit and blow… yuck, yuck, yuck!

When I “simply expose the raw bones of an issue” I am beside myself how that will help me to get to the heart of it all?

I am not a butcher. The last White Tailed Deer I murdered was my responsibility to carve up. It was hard as I distinctly remember having two Deer in my gun site… a little one and big one… and I pulled the trigger to blast away the big one. The Big One was a female… likely Bambi’s mommy… and when mommy dropped… Bambi, her baby jumped back into the bush for safety. Mommy was dead…

Good gracious I feel terrible now. What a downer. When I get down to simply expose the raw bones of an issue… I am not a hunter. I am an excellent shot but a lousy hunter.

I think I will eat some Veggies today.

As I am going through the old and out of date Phrases in my dusty old boxes… I have realized one thing… I am good at scrabble and games that use Phrases.

So now that we looked at some of your old memories, your old cool way of talking… do you think your grand children will think you are totally out to lunch and/or completely off the wall?

I think that mine already think that I am nuttier than a fruitcake anyway.

Today’s Blog Post

Old People and Old Body Parts that are Famous

My last post was about Old People… this one is also about Old People… sheesh! I am with Old People a lot these days. At McDonalds most people are Old as well… Old in the Morning and Old at night… Old, Old, Old.

So yesterday they cut off an Old Leg of an Old Lady… in fact she is now 94 years old, and so was the leg.

The reports that I read told me they did it to save the Old Lady’s life.

The Old Lady fell down in July breaking her leg. They put a new part in her Old Body but new infection invaded her Old Body… and at the beginning of Friday unless they took her Old Leg off she was likely going to die.

Now much of what I wrote will not make much of a difference unless you are really important. And if the leg was important… it would make news as well.

Well that leg was important as well – even though it was 94 years old and had gone with the Old Lady everywhere.

Are you ready for this… you already know the leg and the Old Lady that it belongs to…

Zsa Zsa Gabor owned that right leg… and the whole world heard about it late last night for the first time.
(sorry I couldn't get a 94 Year old Zsa Zsa photo...)
Zsa Zsa was married a few times… Wikipedia states the following…quote..
Gabor has been married nine times. She was divorced seven times, and one marriage was annulled. Her husbands, in chronological order, are:
Burhan Asaf Belge (1937–1941) (divorced)
Conrad Hilton (April 10, 1942–1947) (divorced)
George Sanders (April 2, 1949 – April 2, 1954) (divorced)
Herbert Hutner (November 5, 1962 – March 3, 1966) (divorced)
Joshua S. Cosden, Jr. (March 9, 1966 – October 18, 1967) (divorced)
Jack Ryan (January 21, 1975 – August 24, 1976) (divorced)
Michael O'Hara (August 27, 1976–1983) (divorced)
Felipe de Alba (April 13, 1983 – April 14, 1983) (annulled)
Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt (August 14, 1986 – present)

Due to her high number of divorces, she once claimed that she was a good housekeeper because every time she divorced, she kept the house.
End quote

Zsa Zsa had two rather famous sisters as well, Eva and Magda. Both died younger, Eva at 76 and Magda at 82.

In Hong Kong, up on a mountain there is a monastery. In that monastery is a very old body of a priest. After he was buried the conditions were just right for his body to not decay but rather shrivel up… mummified I think. The older priests and his friends exhumed his body and covered it in Gold Leaf. He now sits in a glass enclosure (at least the last time I saw him… he was…) Kind of morbid… but it does pay for the Monastery.. people come to pray and be near something like this.

Now Zsa Zsa’s leg, though it is 94 years old now, could be a good thing for Hollywood.. wouldn’t you think?

As I read the stories of these three sisters over I couldn’t help be amazed at their resilience and ability to rise again from nothingness and near disaster to what they became today.

Wow!

I wish Zsa Zsa the best… hang in there Old Girl! I loved your line… “I am a good housekeeper because every time I divorced, she kept the house dahling!”

A Guide to Senior’s Text Messaging

It is a cold winter day here in Ontario – January 13, 2011. Brrr… BUT the sunshine is bright and the sky is a brilliant blue with no clouds!

The weather changed from the overcast and snowy days of the last few days. It is Canada after all – and it is our season to the white stuff.

Setting the stage this way I offer the following that came to me by way of a friend who got it from a brother who likely got it from a friend and so on. I think it will brighten your day.

Now to preface this list I should say that I recently upgraded my Cell Phone to be able to send and receive Tex Messages. I am an extremely with it Grandpa. I al getting on to the small abbreviations that are used in most messages… not the English that I know… but useful when you are working with a small key board that is impossible for big fingers or thumbs to type on.

If you have jumped into this world like I did – I needed a reference to help me… when I read or saw the following… each is a separate statement.

Today’s Blog Post

“Return of Jesus”, the “Rapture”, or the “Resurrection”

I have between One to Twenty Years left to live. At the very outside that may be Thirty Three Years – which could put me at 100 years old. I will be dead after that… gone on to my reward.

If I was to make it to the full 100 year old mark – it would be 2044.

It is predicted that by the end of this year, 2011, the population of the Earth will exceed 7 Billion people. In 1944, when I was born, there were about 2 Billion people. In my short life time of 67 years the population has tripled in size. There are a lot more people sitting down to eat with us at the Big Table.

By 2050 – when I would be 107 years old – it will reach 10.5 Billion.

I was reading the National Geographic Magazine’s amazing article on the facts of our Population and what it means to us.

To me – it will not mean that much… at least that is what I thought for a while.

On the lighter side, when I reach the age of entering a Senior’s complex, there may well be Not Enough Beds for the Seniors booking in! Or worse yet the food stuff will not be enough.

My great, great grandkids could be looking at a very crowded Canada with our country needing to share more of its vast open space with other people. For one thing my grand children of the next generations will likely work overseas to help the population needs that are coming. How could they stay home when the need will be so great? If they have my genetic make up they will not be able to!!!!

As I was reflecting on this old thoughts came back from a conversation of a few weeks ago. I had been listening to what a Senior Friend of ours had stated. Her husband is now 92 and very close to his promotion.

She stated the obvious of her generation, “We never thought we would live this long. When we were young we fully expected that Jesus would come back before we ever grew old together.”

For those that connect with this Blog from all over the world, and especially from Countries that have little exposure to Christianity I need to explain something that was preached in our churches long ago. I am also explaining this for the present generation coming after me, for many of you have never heard this part of our Theology in our present Christian Church.

The Church preached that Jesus Christ would come back at any moment. No one knew the day or nor the hour. There was an excitement about this possibly happening in the very near future. Like maybe today, tomorrow, before the end of the week… and if not then it would definitely be before the end of the year.

I can remember as a boy sitting very close to my father’s side, and listening to the Preacher at the front of the church passionately preach about the soon return of Christ.

I remember wondering if we would make it to Christmas and see a New year. I never thought I would become a teenager or ever get married. The preaching was that good – or clear on the topic of the Return of Jesus Christ at which time he would Rapture the Believers that were scattered all over the world. Suddenly every born again Christian would be gone.

The preaching was that powerful when I was young that all the people that died and were buried had their head stones facing east, with their head at the stone and feet at the east end. The belief was that when the Resurrection took place the bodies of our dead loved ones would sit up, stand up and then rise with Jesus in the air. The idea that we were spiritual beings as well as physical beings were mashed together and stayed that way even after death.

A side line to this thinking was not only the burial of the body with feet first to the east, but it was also not a good idea to Cremate a body. It was not a good thing to do with the body back in my early days.

Now we burry whatever way it is available for a grave site. The feet face in all kinds of funny directions and Cremation probably outnumbers the more traditional way of embalming and placing a body in a big casket.

The church has less and less of the message that used to be preached. In fact if we are honest, we do not hear that preached from any pulpit now. It is not something that is talked about.

I preached this when I was much younger in the Walkerton church I pastored. People in 1974 still got excited about this and even shouted “Glory” when I got excited about it all.

I have been retired for two and half years and I have not heard one message or mention of the “Return of Jesus”, the “Rapture”, or the “Resurrection” – in all the preaching that I have sat through.

I must be fair also in that I stopped preaching that as well… sometime after we needed to address the Debt on the Church each Sunday, or between the eras that I was overly concerned about my own Pastoral Position in the church – which was to be eliminated because or whatever.

Why pay off the Church Debt… if everyone will be Raptured and no one will be around?

Job Insecurity puts a crunch on what is said from a pulpit. My Presbyterian Pastor Friends simply don’t raise the issue from the pulpit either. None of the other guys do that either.

But we do slip it in when the funeral takes place when we remind each other that the old scriptures do talk about it… and we will see this loved one again… etc… etc…

What will happen with all these folks on Earth?

The National Geographic Magazine actually makes reference to the doomsday predictions and also to the end of the world times... that the church used to refer to. The Church doesn’t talk about it but NGM does?

Back in my boyhood days when the population was 2 Billion – the Christians might have come close to being a majority. In 2011 I have my doubts that this is true.

If the world did lose all the Christians in one night(or day or afternoon) – there would be more space for others.

My how the message of Christians has changed.

Further to this thinking… in the old days… when Christ was just about to return… the industrialization and industry in general gave little thought of how they treated the soil, the water, the Oceans, or anything. Many of the very rich were Christians. Because Jesus would return soon… what did it matter? The Christians above all may have been the most reckless with what they had responsibility for. Their escape was sure so why worry about being a good steward of what they had at the time?

Now I just know that the good Christians that believe in the “Soon Return of Jesus” will be having a fit with an ordained preacher of the “Gospel of Jesus Christ” writing this way. I just know it!

The problem is that I still believe what I used to preach. But if I preach what I believe, the people that may be sitting there will not likely accept it any too soon. Many of the dear Christians have set new rules and ways of thinking… and scary preaching doesn’t fit.

Get with it Murray.

Today’s Blog Post

The Terri-Lynn and Jason Story

The wheel chair moved slowly to the music. In the chair were two people. Jason was moving the chair by using his right hand on the wheel. His left arm was holding his new bride who was sitting on his lap. This was their wedding dance.

Jason is now blind and uses a wheel chair for all his major movements from place to place. The wheel chair helps reduce the problem with his Blood Pressure dropping drastically as he moves from laying down to sitting up to standing… at which time he can pass out very easily as the BP drops to about 50% or less in a matter of moments.

As a fairly severe diabetic the BP problem is a side effect… along with the need for kidney dialysis three times a week.

Jason is just about 30 years old now. And each of these years has been a chore as of late.

Terri-Lynn came into Jason’s life a little over a year ago and has loved him dearly. She was with him all the time.

When Jason first called me to tell me more about this amazing Terri-Lynn she had been going with him regularly to his dialysis at the Hospital. By just sitting with him and talking the friendship grew more and more.

I was leery of the folk that attached themselves to Jason. Over the years there have been some other gals that have fit into Jason’s life – or I should say tried to squeeze into his life… and take control. Some of these gals wanted Jason to move in with them – and they would take care of him… and his money.

It was very evident in many cases that they were gold diggers – seeing Jason as a guaranteed income for themselves. Jason would move in and they would start looking after his shopping, care and whatever as he turned his money over to them.

Jason couldn’t see anything. He couldn’t see dirt in the place… the danger… or that there was another man(or men) in the potential care giver’s life. It was a pure and simple rip off.

That didn’t happen only once either!

So when a gal by the name of Terri-Lynn came along… I was a little suspicious to say the least.

Terri-Lynn is amazing. She wants nothing more than to look after Jason full time. Jason is on a full disability pension as is Terri-Lynn. They need nothing from the other – except the love that they give each other.

I performed the marriage ceremony for them yesterday… and it was very good.

Terri-Lynn broke down and cried as she said her words for Jason. Jason was deeply moved as he said his words to Terri-Lynn. I cannot remember any wedding ceremony that was as touching as this one was.

In other weddings and the years afterwards I expect that the couple will be buying a house and having a family… setting up a tremendous life together.

Jason and Terri-Lynn will have some good years together… but if all goes as it may go… there will not be a lot of years left together. The natural breakdown of a tired body could be what they face.

In the past we have almost lost Jason a number of times. The physical problems are so many that without close monitoring and care he will come close to death often.

Terri-Lynn is a God Send for this young fellow… and she is watching everything very well.

I can say today as I reflect back on yesterday afternoon… I have seen real love.

I bless Terri-Lynn and Jason in their new life together… for as long as they both shall live and love.

Today’s Blog Post
The Manitoba Sasquatch

Today there is no doubt that I needed Winnipegger Archie Motkaluk to come into my life. This week has been filled with up and down emotions as 2011 started with some very high moments and then some rather low ones. Thank you Archie!

Archie is 70 years old now. That means that he was born in 1941. And it also means that he and I are close to the same age.

The story about Archie happened on December 29, 1960… and December 26, 2010 That year he was 19 and I was 16 way back in 1960.. today we are both grandpas.

During that period of time we were both walking through the backwoods of Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Well at least Archie would have or could have been walking in the woods… for myself, the part of Saskatchewan that we lived in had no “woods”… unless you travelled to the valley north of the city… and that wasn’t “woods” it was scruffy brush that covered the coulees of the valley around Lumsden.

Now it seems that Archie was home for the holidays in Renwer, Manitoba. He had been attending school in Winnipeg the article said. And I am only guessing at this… but at 19 he was likely attending the University of Manitoba… which brings us a little closer together again.

Now something else that brings Archie and me a little closer together is the fact that we are both Grandpas now.

It seems that over this past holiday he had some of the kids home for the holidays. To liven up the party a little Archie went into his private stuff and fetched a book that he had not yet revealed to his family in all these past 70 years of his living. Maybe the party was getting a little slow or something… and Archie decided this was the time to tell the grandson and granddaughters what he had done when he was their age.

Knowing that the grandkids are very sharp in this generation a simple story about a wild happening when he was 19 years old… was not enough. He would need proof to help the grandkids understand.

In the years past as the grandkids were growing up they would not have understood… and more than that.. his wild story might have frightened the little gaffers… so he just never revealed his secret… until this past week.

It seems from the article that was posted today Archie brought out his old book from 1960. And it seems that Archie was a bit of a artist way back in 1960. When he came back into the house with a wild story about seeing something really weird… his mother sat him down with the book and asked him to draw it.

There are the pages for his now 18 to 20 year old grandkids to see was his sketch of the 1960 Sasquatch that he saw near Renwer on December 29, 1960.

Now come on… that is not fair for you to laugh at this man! Stop it! Come on you 2011 Sceptic. Get your guff offs out of here!

Laurie Mustard’s story relates that… quote…
“Christmas Day at home on Lipton Street, with all the family around him, Archie brought out a book containing handwritten notes and a drawing of the Sasquatch he had a very up close and personal encounter with back on December 29, 1960. One by one, the family took Archie's book into a room adjoining their dining room, and read details of the day Archie clearly remembers standing face to face, eight feet away from a female Sasquatch in the bush near Swan River, Manitoba, and wondering what was going to happen next.”

“Home for Christmas from attending school in Winnipeg, Archie was visiting his parents farm near Renwer, Manitoba (south east of Swan River) and had taken a team of horses and the sleigh to go chop some wood three miles or so into the bush back of the farm.

With the horses tied to some nearby brush, axe in hand, 10:30 a.m., Archie was chopping deadfall when about 400 yards across the clearing he was in, he spotted what he believed to be a man slowly heading his way, stopping every few minutes to examine the bushes. Wasn't quite sure what the guy was up to, but by the time the "man" got within a hundred yards or so, Archie realized his visitor was a Sasquatch, who, shortly after, confronted Archie in a manner that left him literally frozen in place till the fear subsided enough for both him and the Sasquatch to take a few steps back.”
End quote

Now I will admit to a snicker here as well. No – No – not a sceptic or anything… just a little humour that I need now. But you would have to have walked in the Manitoba Woods at one point in your life to get it… and it would have to be happening when you were about 19 years old… and maybe attending the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg in the 1960s… which Archie and I both did.

This is just too funny. Old Archie… you crack me up… I am losing it!

Now why laugh?

Well Old Archie… it is Manitoba and it is December 29 – and if you have been out in the bush… it is DARN COLD! I have not known a Manitoba Woods experience on December 29 that has not been below Minus 25 C or F… and often approaches Minus 40 C or F!!!

Now Archie… you said that the Sasquatch was a girl… a female.

I also know that girls in Manitoba don’t go out in the cold… and the way that they dressed in 1960 – EVERYTHING was COVERED UP… not like at the MALL TODAY ON DECEMBER 29!!!!

But then everyone knows that the Sasquatch doesn’t wear any clothes… and your hand drawing shows that.

Now Laurie’s article quoted you saying… “standing face to face, eight feet away from a female Sasquatch in the bush near Swan River, Manitoba, and wondering what was going to happen next.”

And Laurie stated… “Archie realized his visitor was a Sasquatch, who, shortly after, confronted Archie in a manner that left him literally frozen in place till the fear subsided enough for both him and the Sasquatch to take a few steps back.”

“Confronted him in a manner that left him literally frozen in place…”

Come on now.. don’t stop there Archie (or Laurie)… that is not fair! WHAT DID SHE DO?

Now remember I spent quite a bit of time in Manitoba… later attending University but earlier wonderful weeks on my Uncle Max and Aunt Annie’s farm. Their son Gary was one of best cousins… and friends… at that time.

Now going back to the memories and that time… Gary and I were coming into the age that all teenage boys come into… we started to notice girls! And boy or boy did we ever!

I distinctly remember my cousin telling me one late night about girls in Manitoba being called “Sasquatches”. It was kind of a local nickname that the guys used to describe the rather ugly girls that no one would ever be with... let alone date one of them!!!

I know it wasn’t flattering and would be downright hurtful if the girls ever heard the boy use that term!

I had always traveled to the Manitoba Farm from the city. So Gary’s revelation to the simple city kid was nothing short of amazing.

When I first heard the term I used it on my sister when I called her a “Sasquatch”. She has heard Gary telling me why they called girls that. My sister immediately reported my nasty word to my parents.

Now Gary won’t remember any of this when he reads it… but then he is just a year or so younger than me… and you know what old men’s minds are like. (Please note I have not used the last name of my relatives to protect guys like Gary… who now is in business in Calgary… ahem… and has hired a few Sasquatches over the years)

Archie your story was GREAT. It helped me today. I laughed.

Now what did Archie see in the woods on December 29, 1960? Hmmm… I just bet his grandkids are having a ball with this one!

Seriously – with my grandsons coming into the age that they are… it is almost my time to tell them my stories too. Each time I tease them now about girls.. their eyes glisten over and then they grin with that silly grin… that all grandpas know.

Now Archie drew some pictures of his Sasquatch.

So did I… but my wife told me they needed to be in a secret place. “What would the grandkids think if they saw those…?!?” So I tucked them away… some day I may bring them out… and they will giggle I am sure. BUT my drawings are way better than Archie’s!!!!

I just hope they don’t go to a person like Lauire Mustard who tells a good tale.

Thanks Laurie and Archie! Great stuff!

Today’s Blog Post

“in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish for the rest of our lives…”

Just a little over 6 months ago I stood at the front of a beautifully decorated hall, under a white wooden structure, with Glenn and Valerie. The place was in Montreal.

The date was May 29, 2010.

Some of the words that we read and spoken are posted her for you to read…

“Glenn will you give yourself to Valerie to be her husband: to love her, comfort her, honour and protect her; and forsaking all others, to be faithful to her so long as you both shall live?”

“I will…” Glenn responded.

“Valerie will you give yourself to Glenn to be his wife: to love him, comfort him, honour and protect him; and forsaking all others, to be faithful to him so long as you both shall live?”

“I will… “ Valerie responded.

At that point both were beaming as they looked into each other’s eyes.

As the wedding ceremony progressed I asked each one to repeat after me the following words…
“I, Glenn, take you Valerie to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward:
for better, for worse,
for richer, for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
to love and to cherish for the rest of our lives,
according to God’s holy ordinance. This is my solemn vow.”

“I, Valerie, take you Glenn to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward:
for better, for worse,
for richer, for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
to love and to cherish for the rest of our lives
according to God’s holy ordinance. This is my solemn vow.”

Last evening Glenn passed away from the Cancer that had ravished his body these past months.

Val remained by his side until the end. Val is an amazing lady. We love her.

Today I can say no more than that. I have a big lump in my throat…

God bless you Val… we are with you.
