Our Friend John is Gone....

“Until death do us part…”

37 years ago John and Linda spoke this promise to each other at an altar of a church. They kept this promise up until Wednesday evening this past week – 37 wonderful years. At that moment John slipped away to meet the Lord personally – face to face. He passed away at 60 years of age at home with Linda.

John died of a “Subarachnoid Hemorrhage” that took him in a very short time.

John was someone that I knew as a quiet friend. He didn’t say much and definitely didn’t want to be the center of attention. He listened and responded quietly.

As a Contractor he was faithful and good at all he did. When you visit their home the workmanship of the home that he had built is perfect. There is nothing in the home that his hands had not touched.

Everyone that had hired John loved his work. He was a man of his word and the folk that had contracted John to build or renovate would testify of his quality workmanship.

Over these past years his wife Linda had suffered long and difficult battles with a growing brain tumor. Through operations and treatments of various kinds she has survived the cancer growing within her body. John was always faithful and supported her through it all – a temporary loss of memory, pain, headaches and all that come with this very serious illness.

All the while that Linda walked through this difficult time John also suffered from massive migraine headaches that would debilitate him – often making him lay quietly by himself until the pain lifted. His headaches were there often and for long periods of time.

As I sat with Linda and her two sons yesterday there was a presence of peace. John was gone but he was there with his two great sons – who are with mom all the way. Both boys have done well in there work experience. Both are going to be there for mom. This is John’s heritage. He was so proud of his kids.

I write these words to honor John today.

The memorial service will be private and generally for his family – without great fan fare – no visitation prior. A very few friends may join next week to say their good byes. But this is the way that the boys knew he wanted it.

Together they worked on words to describe their dad. The best one that seemed to describe John was… a “servant’s heart”. He enjoyed serving and loved the things that he was given to do. I agree whole heartedly with that description.

And as I look at his sons – they in turn have developed that “servant’s heart” as well. A multiplication of their dad – what a blessing!

Eight years ago I stood with John and Linda as we buried his father. Brother Kemp senior was a remarkable man that chose to serve people. We had come to know each other because of my work within the prison system. He also had chosen to serve men in prison also.

Not long ago I looked at Mr. Charles Kemp’s file of collected letters from men in prison. They wrote to him sharing their dreams and future visions. After he had met them in jail they began to work on a correspondence course that he administered. They thanked him over and over again for the words of encouragement that he had given them at just the right time in their life. John was a lot like his dad.

My friend John is gone. It will be hard to say goodbye. He was 5 years younger than I am. This is close to home.

There are no great or profound words that I can say today. I am simply blessed with the life that has been before me for these past 10 years.

May God bless you John! Rest easy my friend. We will all see you soon…very soon.

So what is Good about Good Friday?

In 40 years time this is the first Good Friday I have not gone to church. What a statement to make as a Pastor.

I am a retired Pastor now and this is my first year to not carry the weight of having to do a church service on Good Friday or Easter Sunday. I am no longer responsible to “make it happen” and conduct the important tradition of the Christian Church – remembering our Lord’s Death and Resurrection – a show piece of the local church. Traditionally it has been a time that everyone comes to church… a high point in the year.

For some reason our church is almost all away this weekend – so there is no service. A poll was taken and it was found that few would be there. I am not critical of the decision at all.

For years I have felt that the declining interest and the push to make it happen by myself and my paid assistants has been the main reason that we have kept it alive. Last year there was a dwindling number that sprinkled the pews of the large sanctuary. This year people were more honest and simple stated that, “Yes we will be away…”

Maybe guilt about not having a service will no longer be the driving force that has kept it happening by a faithful few,

For years our churches have made the Easter Weekend a great collecting of folk from the community. As I boy I remember that it was the weekend that we all got our new clothing for church attendance and other important dates to come. Women had new hats and dresses. Men shined shoes more often and the boys got new trousers. Attendance at church swelled and the seats were full… almost.

There was special bread and buns with many kinds of foods to eat – an early Christmas celebration or a second Christmas celebration after the winter is almost over.

Then came Easter Eggs and later the Bunny that delivered the eggs… with many of us starting to believe that the Bunny Lays the eggs. Farm kids were smarter than that – they knew that what came out of a Bunny was not eggs…but rather chocolate Glossette Raisins that city kids could be fooled into trying.

Society changed from the days of my boyhood. People are much busier and more people have to work. It is very unusual to find a stay at home mom and a family with one person only working. When a good weekend comes along that has some holidays sprinkled around it – giving us a four day stretch of away from toil… we take what we can get.

If I was completely honest with you – I found it difficult to keep the church service going Good Friday and Easter Sunday – when everyone else left on a holiday. That constant “having to be there for the show” was heavy at times. My Church Board members were all away… my Assistant Pastors wished they were and the congregation that had come “missed their friends”.

Now it should be said here that we could have had a larger crowd if we would have hired a great Southern Gospel Group to light up our church. A few years back we had checked out the possibilities to hire some Big Guns for this special weekend. The cost for the Christian Circus kind of weekend was astounding… somewhere over $10,000 for a Good Group… and maybe $2000 for a Ho Hum group.

We checked out the possible attendance of own people – and they were not going to be there either. We would have to do the Rootin Tootin advertisement for the weekend and convince the other Church Attenders in the City to leave their churches and come to ours, give in a Love Offering to pay the debt that we had incurred with the Good Group… and then face the other ministers the next months with small amount of guilt for stealing their folk away…

But if we were lucky the people we stole from other churches would stay in our church and not return back to their churches – because we are better…

Come to think of it – maybe that is why our Easter Weekend services were dropping over the past few years… the “Christian Circus” was happening at the other Bigger Better More Beautiful People Congregations in the City – that is BBMBPC in the City.

What I have also discovered in these last few years – there are more people on the outside of the church having fun than on the inside. But it is kind of a bummer today – even the Malls and Grocery Stores are closed for this Holiday… but I doubt that they know why.

So what is Good about Good Friday?
If you have followed my rambling and double meaning statements above… you will definitely wonder about me as a minister. I am sure.

You see the church has for a long time forgotten what Good Friday is all about. My opinion anyway… for what it is worth. Some Pastors for that matter may have lost that depth of the meaning with all that they have to do on special weekends like this… they just lead and keep the show going.

Today instead of wondering if the people that should have the communion ready to go – would really be there to do the job or not – I didn’t worry or wonder any more. Wondering if we had picked the right words and songs to sing is no longer a stressor. Feeling that gut wrenching feeling… when you know that half your own people are at the BBMBPC – is not nagging at my mind and gut. Wondering if they would come back from the BBMBPC and attend our church again – is a wisp of a memory…

This morning early when I woke up I remembered that Last Day that Jesus was alive. He had been beaten and his body ripped until it was not recognizable… Mel Gibson helped me with that image.

Next the soldiers paraded him to a miserable trial and then had him carry his own cross to a miserable hill – where they murdered him under a very dark sky.

Then they let his friends bury his body in a quiet tomb.

You know the rest of the account I am sure. On the Third Day he busted out of the entombment – Resurrected we say in the church… to live again.

Come to think of it… today is Good… it is Good Friday – when one of the most horrible things happened to the best man that ever lived… so that I might pause someday and remember what he did.

Today I am doing that without all the other professional, religious stuff… and it feels so good!

Finally…
24Now Murray (called Pastor), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it."
26A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Murray was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" 27Then he said to Murray, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe."
28Murray said to him, "My Lord and my God!"
29Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
30Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. (John 20:24 – 30)

Please send me your check for $22 written to “Murray Lincoln”

So the text states…
FOR YOUR COMPENSATION
Greetings, How are you with your family? I hope fine. I'm happy to inform you about my success in getting those funds transferred under the cooperation of a new partner from Saudi Arabia, Presently i'm in Saudi, meanwhile I didn't forget your past efforts to assist me in transferring those funds despite that it failed us some how. Now contact my secretary in Burkina-Faso West Africa through her e-mail id (
umaru_abuduli123@yahoo.fr) ask her to send you the total cheque of (€400.000.00Euro)which I kept for your compensation for all the past efforts and attempts to assist me in this transaction. so feel free and get in touched with my secretary Mr Umaru. she will send the draft to you.

Regards,
Mr Gregory.

In my Western Financial Need… I now have an answer. Mr. Gregory is going to help me. And his secretary Umaru Abuduli will be of great assistances to me… by sending me the check for $529,240.05 USD ($400,000 Euro). All these years of our country helping the Nations of Africa will now pay off – they are starting to give back… at least some of them are.

You have already figured it out I am sure. Another SCAM that is coming into out email boxes on a regular basis.

Doing a small amount of research I found out that there is a group named “419scam.org” that has been formed to inform people like me that wish to get rich quickly and desperately hope to get out of debt before it is too late.

The 419Scam group suggests the following to help me not get caught in the swirl and pain of losing the little money that I have left…
What can you do when you receive a 419 scam mail?
· Whatever you do, never send any money, no matter what reason you are given. Don't be greedy, use your common sense.
· Don't rush. Why the hurry? 419 scammers make up a deadline after which the unexpected (and imaginary) fortune will be lost forever. You're not supposed to have time to research and think about the matter.
· If the email address is not listed in our blacklist yet, you can submit the complete email (if possible with full headers) to us. If we get suitable evidence we'll add the 419 scammer to our blacklist.
· Report the email to the abuse department of the domain used by the scammer (see abuse contact list). Normally you get the email address of the abuse department by changing the left hand side of the scam email address to the word abuse. For example, if the mail originates from mrjephills6@tiscali.co.uk then write to abuse@tiscali.co.uk, if it's barristerchris_smith1@zipmail.com.br then write to abuse@zipmail.com.br, etc. Please quote the full text of the mail including message headers (in Outlook Express you get the full message source via Ctrl+F3; use cut+paste to insert that into your email). Even more important than sender addresses are contact addressed in the message body, such as "claims agents" of fake lotteries. Make sure you report these to the matching abuse department too.
· If you have lost money you can report the case to law enforcement in your country (if you haven't lost money, law enforcement will not usually be interested at all). In the United States, contact your local police. An overview of reporting addresses for various countries can be found at the 419 Coalition website
· You can "ping" the scammer (bounce a message off his contact address to get him to reply) to give them work to do and to help provide evidence to us. Please use a disposable Yahoo email account for this.
· You can get yourself a spamfilter, such jwSpamSpy (not available for Yahoo oe AOL). If you run a Linux-based mailserver you can use SpamAssassin, which recognizes many 419 scam emails.
· Some people write to 419 scammers, trying to get them to exchange emails that ultimately lead nowhere, so the scammers waste time. It can be very entertaining :-) Just don't use your real name and use a disposable email account created for the purpose. Visit scambaits.com for examples and advice.
· Most 419 scam emails contain phone numbers. When you call such numbers, please carefully check the time zone in Nigeria or wherever the criminals operate from. I am sure you would not want to accidentally wake someone at 3am, just because you got confused about the time zones ;-) Make sure you disable caller ID or call from a public payphone so as not to leave your home or office number on their mobile phone display. Calls to Nigerian mobile phones cost as little as €0.20/minute (US$0.25/minute) via SkypeOut. Be careful with +44 70 redirection numbers, they cost as much as US$0.90/minute, so keep it short.
· Other people mail large files such as digital snaps to the contact addresses listed in the emails. This can fill up their mailboxes pretty quickly, preventing emails by potential victims from reaching the criminals. While it's quite effective, it also uses resources of companies who provide free email services, potentially affecting their other customers. It's vigilante justice. We don't condone it :-)

Great Advice – Thank you 419 Scam!

The problem is that in our world of MUCH – we are suffering because we are knocked down a peg or two… In the African world of LITTLE – even the recession/depression of 2009 has little to do with most of their people.

Personally I did respond to Gregory’s email by sending him 15 Chapters of Genesis with questions I have for him tucked in between the couple of hundred scripture verses.

And Gregory… and Umaru… thanks for reading this Blog too.

My point is we are gullible and dudes like this play off the stupidity that we have rampant among us. More than likely they studied at our Universities and saw how really stupid we are.

But just before you go… I have a deal for you.
Please send me your check for $22 written to “Murray Lincoln”. I will in turn send you a Blessed Piece of Wood from my wood shop. Some of the pieces are totally unique in that they have my own blood on them – from the last cut that I did on my left hand when I was in too big a hurry. I will be praying for you each day from the day that you send me your money. I do that by placing your letter in a special basket – then I pray over top of the basket once a week.

I will personally cover the shipping and handling for you. You will receive the Blessed Piece in a few days(depending where you live). If you add another $20 to the amount I am able to send it much faster… UPS or Percolator.

Here is the great value added part of my offer. When I die this chip will increase in value by at least 400 times. That is to a minimum of $8000. From recent guesstimates – that value increase will happen within 15 years – to a maximum of 25 years…but then it could be less than 5 years…

Where else will you ever get a 400% increase in a short few years?

My address is Murray Lincoln, 925 Western Ave. Peterborough, Ontario, K9J 5W1.

Yes please do check out the facts about me. My Web Page is included below my name. I am waiting.

High Paid TV Preachers

In an era of cut backs and down turns in the economy it is quite normal for people to discuss salaries that others make. In the world of the automobile we see the CEO salaries blasted far and wide… and the pay outs are considered by the ordinary person to be almost criminal.

There can be no greater slam for an unemployed person than the announcement of an obscene salary.

Last weekend I enjoyed a day in Coboconk as we attended the service in the small church. We sat in on a very active discussion among adults. The subject was the salaries of TV Evangelists/TV Personalities in the Religious World. Talk about a hot one. I heard things that I had never heard before. I saw how some people react both for and against the very rich TV People.

One of the people that was pointed at was Joel Osteen. He makes a lot of money according to the folk in Coboconk and what I have found on the Internet… but he makes it through the sale of his books – stating in 2005 that he hopes he would never have to receive another pay from the church. At that time he had given up his $200,000 a year job at the church. Someone said he now gets over $500,000 a year. WOW!

In an article written in 2003 it is stated that John Hagee, another TV personality…
"Taken together, his payment package, $842,005 in compensation and $414,485 in benefits, was one of the highest, if not the highest, pay package for a nonprofit director in the San Antonio area in 2001."

How could one man be worth that much? Celebrity status I am sure. Check out the Ministry Watch Report listed below… it will stagger your mind the numbers that are shown up to 2004.

Some one in the debate that I sat in on stated that the man works over 70 to 80 hours per week.

I pointed out that I also worked that and more – but couldn’t get a Board to agree that I was worth that much.

John Hagee has 3 board members… and each receive some compensation…
Compensation of Officers, Directors
$473,000(2004) $565,000(2003) $41,000(2002) $ 58,000(2001) $41,000 (2000)

Other Salaries, Wages $1,216,000(2004) $2,159,000(2003) $2,589,000(2002) $2,139,000(2001) $2,718,000 (2000)

The thing that bothered me as a pastor – the most... was when I went to visit a dear old saint on the church – and there in the middle of the table was the latest “product” that the TV personalities were selling for a “donation”. Knowing that the TV Person made unbelievable amounts of money and the little lady locally giving it – had hardly anything… worse yet neither did her church…bothered me greatly.

And the pastor that was expected to visit – also was not paid the way that Hagee or Osteen are.

I am sure it sounds like sour grapes on my part to bring this up. Sorry if it bothers you. But I am so glad that I sat in that discussion last week about the TV personalities and their pay. What an eye opener to say the least.

I spoke to the young man after that had led the discussion… his comment… “ I have nothing to lose… and our people need to hear about what is happening.” Thank you Mark for being honest.

But – I am about to launch a book too… I hope someday…maybe… and I will be telling it like it really is… maybe… for sure… I think… possibly… then I will be loaded too. Then maybe the $500,000 a year will be mine too… maybe… possibly… do you think?

Flying Beer and Over Happy Fans

When I first got wind of the story I was drinking my coffee early in the morning. Imagine – stupid fans got so riled up that they began throwing stuff on to the baseball field at the Roger’s Centre in T.O.? It appears that they were drunk and began to fight with each other. Can you imagine? And that is in Toronto and Canada.

As a result the Rogers Center will be DRY for the next three events as part of their punishment. The people entering the gates will each be checked and the line ups will grow in length as people try to get into their games/events.

Why are people like this? I do not promote the drinking of alcohol at these events – it… I believe leads to unruly behavior and bad stuff happening. People losening up with the beverage then strange things happen.

At one game I attended a number of years ago at the Taylor Field in Regina – a Saskatchewan Rough Rider Game… the idiot behind me spilled his home concoction of Vodka and Orange juice behind me… the contents went squarely into my back pockets and down the waste band of my pants. It was a cold day with a wind blowing. To this day I hate the smell of Orange and alcohol mixes.

But there is something that must be said – the fans are excited. They get into problems when they get higher than they should be with the booze. But they are excited… very excited.

I wish that church was that excited. Maybe adding some stronger drink to the communion would help… J !?

Some churches I have been in lately have not been too exciting(note the word some…) In “some” it is less exciting than a funeral home where “solemness” rules.

Last Sunday we celebrated the Triumphal Entry that Jesus was part of as he rode into the last week of his life. Talk about excited people at the side of the road. They were some happy “moy son”…!!!

The only people that were not happy were the official religion and the religionaires (the guys that ran the show). They were so unhappy that they decided to snuff Jesus and his friends.

What I see is the reckless abandonment of the people that lined the streets. Maybe some of them had already been drinking as well.

Now coming back to the Rogers Centre in Toronto… it was a bad scene to say the least. Not pleasant for any one.

A Way Back…
My Grandpa Kirk was a baseball player. He loved and lived for Sports Days when he was alive. On a Sports Day the surrounding communities used to send their best players to try to whop the local teams.

I asked Grandpa if he ever played snooker. He said “Not anymore…” Then he explained. After the Sports Day Tournaments the guys would gather at the local Pool Hall for a round or two. The Pool Hall was also the place where you could get a nip or two… kind of a local drinking establishment that wasn’t licensed to do so.

Grandpa told me how one fight broke out and one man bit the other man’s nose off and swallowed it. Another had his ear eaten off as well.

Talk about excitement! Can you imagine these old guys mixed in to the Rogers Centre’s crowd. The new young ruff necks might sit down and shut up if the old Truax Gang walked in.

But even with all of the things that had happened… they are excited. And excited people together make stuff happen.

I don’t want the Beer and Booze stuff… but I sure would like to get a little more excited about my faith.

This is Easter Time 2009 for our Western World – for Christians in General… Shouldn’t we get a little more excited with what we know and believe?

I do…

So – even though there is some discipline in place now in Toronto… my hats go off to some goofy guys that were having fun… I think I need a little of what you guys had… but without the booze.

Murderbilia and the People that Buy It

Have you heard this word before – “Murderbilia”? No kidding – it is real! Hair, finger nails, bodily fluids, poems and artwork of convicted (and sometimes executed) murderers are some of things that are sold now.

An article written by Emily Hudson states…
“Ted Bundy was executed by electric chair at Florida State Prison in Starke, Fla. His last words were, "I'd like you to give my love to my family and friends." Then, more than 2,000 volts of electricity were sent through his body. He was pronounced dead at 7:16 a.m. on Jan. 24, 1989.

But that was not the end of Ted Bundy. Anyone willing to pay the price can keep him alive by owning one of his "fried hairs" found underneath his execution chair.

Similar items, such as the poems, artwork and even fingernail clippings and bodily fluids of infamous serial killers, referred to as "murderabilia," sell for big bucks on various online markets and auction sites.”

And…
“The more common items on these sites are prison envelopes, self-portraits, pictures and various letters between the infamous killers and family, friends or legal counsel. Fans of the different murderers, named "serialphiles" by sociologists, will spend anything from pocket change to large sums of money, depending on the notoriety of the murderer. The gun Gary Gilmore used to kill his victims started out in auction at $1 million.”
Have you recoiled in revulsion yet?

Some one sent me information that a Canadian Convict was also attempting to sell his products on the Murderauction.com site. This was stopped by authorities.

I can only imagine what a Victim’s Family must go through thinking that the person that killed their loved one is selling his products through an auctioneer on the Internet. Worse yet… often selling things from the killer… as almost a “deified” product.

Ms. Hudson quotes a number of sources – one being Andy Kahan who is the director of the Houston Mayor’s Victim Office. Andy has done a huge amount of research in this area – uncovering some of the sickest things imaginable.

Who would sell this kind of material and items?

Andy Kahan points out that one of the popular sites – MurderAuction.com is run by Mr. Tod Bohannon. Hang on to your seat on this tid bit of information – Tod is a KINDERGARTEN TEACHER in Georgia! No kidding.

On one site that I looked at I found…
“Mad Slasher Christian Magee Typed Letter Signed In Full”“Item description:Magee terrorized southwestern Ontario in the mid-seventies. He raped and murdered three teen-aged girls between 1974 and 1976 and has been in a mental institution ever since. His autograph is one of the rarest and hardest to obtain of all contemporary killers. A functional illiterate, this one page letter was dictated to a patient at the mental hospital, who typed it for Magee. Signed In Full, Chris Magee. This item has a reserve price and is not available for purchase through Buy It NowFREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE”
Lest you think that this is only about the “whacko cases” that happen in strange places like Texas or Georgia… nope – Mr. Magee did his crimes in the Strathroy area of Ontario, Canada.(Read about it below).

The families of three teenage girls of 1974 – 1976 would never forget what happened. These girls could have been in their early 50s now and grandparents themselves… but they are gone.

Mr. Magee gets notoriety – but the Victim’s Family gets nothing but the continual feeling of loss and dull memories of a bright young lady that never came home.

I write about this today to make you aware. Being aware means that we can stop or slow the sickness that has spread so far into our world.

It is not the first time this has happened. 2009 is no different from years ago – when a hanging in Ontario would draw large crowds for the spectacle. Hangings for that reason were done late at night. In Peterborough’s case the church bells were rung for 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after the man died.
And
http://murraylincoln.blogspot.com/2009/02/peterboroughs-last-hanging_13.html )

In the wonderful old days of the Wild West – stories and photos of the executions of bad men displayed a body propped up for people to have their photos taken beside it.

Not much has happened to make it different… people still want the sensational and others want to provide it.

I am thankful that our Canadian - Correctional Service Canada – has taken steps to make sure this kind of nonsense is stopped – or slowed where possible.

Hats off to our CSC leadership.

Two Old Guys on a Roof

I am a Man. As I am a Man – I can do many things. I do Man Things…things that women can’t do. I am 65 years old(almost) and because I am a Man that is 65 years old – I can do almost anything. I am a Man that has learned many, many things. I can fix it – because I AM A MAN.

Now set me aside into another group, not just a man, not just a 65 year old man – but a Man that has had the opportunity to study highly intricate and delicately balanced, sophisticated electronic stuff – that most men do not have a clue about. I am a Man that could work for the CISIS Canada… or the CIA… or the FIB… or SIS in Britain… and maybe even the M15 of the UK.

I am a Man – and nothing is impossible for men like me. I can do it!!!!

Now – lest you think that I am bragging or tooting my own horn… let’s test it out.

Can you fix a computer? Can you take it completely apart, clean it out and make it work again? I can. Okay… so you can open a Desk Top Machine? But can you do a Lap Top? How about a Blackberry… Nokia… Motorola…? I can. It may take a little time to get it back together… but I CAN DO IT. I AM A MAN… and I DO MAN STUFF! Because I CAN AS A MAN!

Well… here is how “Two Old Guys on a Roof” came about.
Along with my many amazing abilities in the electronic world I have learned that I can discover where any satellite is flying above our earth. It may be 100 to 5000 miles out there – but if it is pointing my way in any way shape or form – I can find it… I can’t see it – but I can find it.

Take a look at the number of Sat Dishes all over the community – those were put up by MEN like me. Those are MAN JOBS – well done!

With some simple Man Logic – and special MAN Abilities – Sats – or “Birds” as the Men talk about them are just waiting for a Man to pick up their signals.

My good friend Doug is A MAN… but not quite with the same Man Abilities that I have.

Doug is A MAN. And in his Man Car he has a GPS that helps him get any where he needs to go… like for groceries… or to church… or how to get home again. It is his Man Thing to be able to use that GPS thingie. And he uses it very well.

I saw how important it was the other night when we traveled in my vehicle to a restaurant which was located in Waterloo. We were in Kitchener. We got to the restaurant, ate and then after dark we started home. We got terribly lost for more than a half hour because he didn’t have his Man Thing to show him the directions on the GPS screen in my vehicle – and I had no clue where to go. Neither of us stopped to ask where we were or where we should go to get way over there… A MAN THING…

While we were in Kitchener we had stopped by to help Doug get his SAT tuned up again.

(The back ground to this is – over a year ago I had helped install the SAT Dish on Doug’s roof. While doing this task – I had falling off the roof when Doug’s borrowed ladder slipped away from the roof – with me on it. That was a MAN Moment not to forget… something like I felt when I used to do the Man Thing and riding bucking bulls for fun… I was hurt but I accomplished the MAN thing and go the job done!!!)

Now since that Sat Dish installation... Doug did a Man Thing and rebuilt the chimney. The Sat Dish had been secured to the chimney and had to be taken off so new bricks could be cemented in place. Doug did the Man thing carrying two bricks at a time up the ladder – making hundreds of trips. Wow! Then Doug did the Man thing by fastening the Sat Dish to the new chimney.

One “Man Problem” that he experienced was that a small one inch movement on a Sat Dish on Earth…moves it about 1000 miles out in Space where the “Bird” is flying. There was no signal to the TV.

So on April 2, 2009 at about 4 PM – Doug and I mounted the roof again using his Brand New Man Ladder that he purchased so no one would be hurt again by falling a Man Fall off the roof.

I carried up the highly sensitive Man Equipment which consists of a Colour TV from my Man Cave back in Peterborough, my Sat Receiver, a bunch of cables and my tools to adjust the Sat Dish.

My Man Glee was almost over the edge as was Doug’s. I would tackle the task and in moments that illusive Bird would be pumping a signal of over 95% into the home below us.

Hook up – connect – snap on – click here and tune there… and the stupid thing wouldn’t work!!! I could get a signal that ranged from 5% to 100% and then never hold.

Two hours and seventeen minutes later, with the sun going down, no more time to get the task done… the Man Glee was gone… I was ready to cry Big Man Tears… and Scream a MAN SCREAM at this really stupid task at hand.

I looked down at my feet as I was standing near the chimney… prayed a small prayer… and took a deep breath – AND THERE IT WAS… the Ding Dong Answer!

I had the cable plugged into… the wrong… place… two hours and seventeen minutes ago… that is 137 minutes of stupid… trying – grunting… trying… hoping…. GRRRRRrrrr arggggghh! I felt KING KONG after they took away the pretty girl from him in the movie.

I slowly reached down and unplugged the cable from one connection… moved it about one inch over… and in 30 seconds I had 98% signal strength.

I looked up slowly at my Man Friend sitting on the roof. Doug said slowly… “What happened?” I could be dishonest and say that I had finally found the answer… caught just the right angle… but I told the truth about what I had done and then I screamed REALLY LOUD – over and over again. GRRRRRrrrr arggggghh! In my best King Kong voice!

The job was done… it was over. Doug was happy and we could move on.

What have I learned?
Maybe, Cisis, CIA, FBI, SIS, or even M15 won’t hire me – unless they want some to kill time and distract some really bad guys… as they come to over to the ladder to ask, “Is there anything we can do to help?”

Two old guys on a roof must be kind of funny in God’s eyes. In fact if I would have listened… one of the guardian angels that he had sent were sitting over at the edge of the roof snickering… and they cupping their hands over their mouths suppressing their laughter that threatened to break out all over.

GRRRRRrrrr arggggghh! I am a MAN… and I do MAN THINGS… dumb maybe – BUT I AM A MAN!!!! GRRRRRrrrr arggggghh!
